Do we know who it is among? Based on the Sept 1st article Gundo quoted on page 2, you'd have to think Pacific (dad is AC), CSU, UW, & Minnesota, assuming he actually took trips to the latter 2. Plus Santa Clara, since he tripped there back in June. Minnesota was supposed to be his last trip (25th) - haven't checked anywhere to see if he actually went. Usually you want to be either 1st or last on the trips. We were neither, but with JayDee having such a good connection with him that may tip the scales. IMO he's the 3rd priority of the 3, but would definitely be a solid get! From SDUT-9/1/2021
Byrd, a 6-7 lefty from Lincoln High in Stockton, has gone from no Division I offers at this time last year to interest from the Pac-12 and Big Ten (and a four-star rating from 247Sports) once coaches realized that he’s two years younger than many seniors. He doesn’t turn 17 until October. Translation: high ceiling. New SDSU assistant coach JayDee Luster, who replaced Jay Morris last week, knows Byrd well. Luster coached with his father, Calvin, at Pacific and was their neighbor in Stockton. Byrd visited Colorado State earlier this month and has trips planned to Washington and Minnesota later in September. Villanova, where his father played in the early 1990s, has shown interest but not offered. As of two weeks ago it was down to SDSU and Villanova, but they haven’t offered. I feel pretty good about this one…

Do we know who it is among? His visits: Colorado State, San Diego State, Pacific (Hometown) Washington & St Mary's. St Mary's making a late run, below is from today's ZAGSBLOG, who is East Coast and it only looks like he spoke about St Mary's and UDub. Byrd is friendly with Aztec Coach, JayDee Luster. Lincoln HS in Stockton is 3.5 miles away from U o P. St Mary's is an hour's drive, but SDSU is an 8 hour road trip, but by far the best choice. Miles Byrd, the nation’s No. 10-ranked shooting guard, will announce his college decision on Saturday, October 2nd at 3pm ET, he tells ZAGSBLOG.
Byrd, the 6-foot-6, 165-pound shooting guard from Lincoln (CA) and the West Coast Elite AAU Program, took his final official visit to Saint Mary’s from Sept. 24-26.
“It was good. I really enjoyed it,” Byrd said. “You could feel the family like culture. It’s a small school so everyone is real close which is cool.”
Byrd said the Saint Mary’s coaching staff pitched the ability to develop as well as fit alongside players that can shoot consistently from three-point range.
“They pride themselves on their development with guards and have pros to prove it,” he said. “With my passing ability, they think me playing with a court full of 35 percent plus three-point shooters will help showcase that ability.”
Before visiting Saint Mary’s, Byrd took an official visit to Washington on September 18.
“It was nice. The city of Seattle is beautiful,” he said. “Just the investment from the whole staff, what a family the team is, and getting a chance to play open gym with the team, the guys were really encouraging and friendly.”
Byrd took his two other official visits to San Diego State and Colorado State. He also took an unofficial visit to Pacific in early September. www.zagsblog.com/2021/09/29/top-90-guard-miles-byrd-set-to-announce-saturday/

I'm sensing SDSU is on a downward trajectory in terms of landing Byrd right now. Hope I'm wrong.

I feel just the opposite. I really like the talent we have on the team this year and I think Dutch is as good as anyone at bringing it together and using it right.

Unfortunately the Aztecs did not get to play in MM - when we had a very good team with Flynn and company
last year were able to do a decent job - but lost in Round 1 of MM
Dutcher and staff did bring in a quality transfer - Matt B - and some others - to go with returning players
Think getting Elijah Saunders - a PF really helps - as that getting quality 4 and 5's has not been the easiest for the Aztecs - Also with Ledee , Butler , Keshad , KD .... here in 2022 does keep us in an upward position
Transfers - are important and do think Dutcher and the staff have a positive reputation out there

I'm sensing SDSU is on a downward trajectory right now. Hope I'm wrong. I see you are a long time San Diego sports fan...... You're such a sensitive fella. This thread is about Miles Byrd and I'm feeling a lot less confident of landing him. Been a fan since 1972 and you, you sensitive guy you?

He's not being too sensitive, you're being too obtuse. Do you mean that getting Byrd is on a downward trajectory? Or do you mean the men's BB program is? Or the entire SDSU sports program? Or the entire San Diego State University? So identify which one it is and then give us a reasonable explanation for your comment please.

But then, you don't sound like the sharpest knife in the drawer...perhaps I was referring to the entire future of the entire universe...

If you'll notice the timing of your previous post and my post, they were almost simultaneous so I hadn't seen your post when I was writing mine, which was valid, given that I hadn't seen your explanation yet. And for the record, you might want to cast a few less aspersions about other's sensitivity because I wasn't being insulting or berating you. I only wanted an explanation.

can we call a truce - instead of the challenges about being an Aztec fan - and see what happens on 10/2 -
If we do sign Byed then it does help the Aztecs but now with the new rules about transfers - things have changed
if it is your first transfer you get to play the upcoming season - so a player does not have to sit - Dutcher and the staff do prefer to get the Experienced players
Let's also remember that the Aztecs are still in the MW a NON P6 conference and there are still some recruits who primarily want to get into P6 conferences

I actually think this statement is pretty damn funny, mostly because it is true. Being a long term San Diego sports fan can sure make you pessimistic. Don’t be so thin skinned

Being a long term San Diego sports fan can sure make you pessimistic. Don’t be so thin skinned What are you trying to say? Chargers, Padres, Clippers, Sails, Conquistadors, Rockets, Gulls .............(feel free to add on!) but we did start OTL and Triathlons in San Diego along with what I will say right here, right now San Diego put modern Skateboarding on the map (La Costa, Del Mar Nationals, Carlsbad skate park, G&S....) so we have that! Also lets not for get about what everybody still laughs about when people say it "The Weather" "the Weathers here, wish you were Beautiful"-----I think that's how it goes? anyhow, being a San Diego sports fan isn't the most glamorous job but someone has to do it! *GO Aztecs!
