Looks like he is tied for 16th 7 strokes behind. I wonder when he will put it all together and win one of these tournaments.

After this tournament he should re-evaluate his approach and make personnel changes. His confidence might be fading. Golf is really a mental game. The critics were right about him changing his putting stroke during the tournament season. That was a huge mistake. Like I wrote earlier, he needs a seasoned veteran's guidance to eliminate brain farts. JMO

Really disappointing to see more coverage of Tiger from 13 years ago than Xander today.

Henley has been very impressive today, has some big names within striking distance. Xander still has a chance to finish under par given the 18th. Wish I saw more of how he was playing today. -1 wouldn't put him out of it but he would have at least 7 players in front of him, including McIlroy and DeChambeau who had great rounds today. Plus DJ had a great round and finished at -1 so he is now in play.

He looks lost putting. Not sure why you switch to a completely different putter in the middle of the season when he is a decent putter. I know he wants to be a great putter but as we see there is more downside than upside.

Very much so. He’s working his way down the ladder of success with rounds - in order- of 68, 70, 71. The whole putter thing should be concerning just from a common sense perspective.

He is using the arm-lock method that DeChambeau uses. To me it looks like it adds tension which is not good thing IMHO. Still, it takes time get comfortable with a change like that and the US Open is the wrong place to not be comfortable on the greens.

OK, well... That's that. His placement today is nothing to sneeze at, we'd all do well to remember.
The pressure is off now. If you don't win on your home course, nobody will give you an extended look to lift the major hardware anywhere else. And that may be exactly what he'll end up needing to cash one of these in. Someday.
He's got a long career ahead and his pot will be a little slower to boil than we all hoped. He'll get there.

Wow. Rahm couldn't make putts all day and then makes two big breakers on the final two holes!

Was kinda hoping he would get to -3 but he had a good tournament.

He certainly didn’t play terrible and had a couple of putts not lipped out yesterday as others mentioned he’d have been right there. He will win his and he is still young.

Dude cost me $300. I'm going to send him a bill. I was in a U.S. Open pool with some buddies and we each pick three golfers. If there's a tie on the first, we go to the second. If there's a tie on the second, we go to the third.
I had Rahm, Koepka and Schauffele.
One of the guys in the pool had Rahm, Koepka and Morikawa. Morikawa finished at -2. Schauffele finished at -1. He missed so many four to eight-foot putts it was ridiculous, including a four-footer at 18. Painful.
Whoever suggested he change his putter, putting grip and putting stroke a month before the Open should be fired. Immediately. Dumbest move ever. Ugh.

When he missed that putt on the par 3 third hole, I had a feeling it was all over. Had he made that one for his 2nd consecutive birdie, I really think he would have played with more confidence and finished higher.

If a player is within 10-15 feet of the pin there are stats of percentages made from those distances. IMO that's the key.

No one is perfect in every phase of the game. Cut the guy some slack. He’s young and placing top 10 in almost every major. He will win majors. Relax.
