I actually got the pleasure of seeing an umpire enforce pace-of-play rules yesterday.
The plate umpire in the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes vs Lake Elsinore Storm game, Glen Meyerhofer, called a strike on a Storm player for not getting back into the box when the pitcher was ready to pitch, and the pitch clock got to zero. The batter didn't like the previous pitch call, which made it 1-2, and he went for a bit of a walk between pitches. As he decided it was time to get back into the box for the next pitch, the umpire was already calling strike 3. His at bat was done. The umpire told him he took too long, and that was that.
By the way, the Storm won the game 8-5. The game included (between the two teams) 7 BB, 17 hits, and 8 errors (6 by Rancho), and still took only 2:38 to play.

Tonight at Lake Elsinore:
3 Storm pitchers scattered 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 13, in Lake Elsinore's 4-0 win over Inland Empire (Angels).
The best part? The time of game for the 9 inning affair--2:08.

Another trip up to The Diamond in Lake Elsinore tonight. The Storm fell behind 3-0 before getting one out. Final score? 10-3 Storm.
The top 4 batters in the Storm line-up tonight (Jarryd Dale .286, Robert Hassell III .294, Euribiel Angeles .351, Brandon Valenzuela .276) went 9-19 combined with 2 doubles and 2 stolen bases.
SS Euribiel Angeles is really fun to watch at the plate. The guy hits the ball hard, and does it with regularity. He is currently leading the league formerly known as the Cal League in hitting (only a player that's played 15 games is ahead of him). And...the guy just turned 19. It should be fun watching this guy progress through the system.
Pitching tonight--Dwayne Matos went the first 3 innings and gave up all the runs. And hits. Reliever Carlos Guarate threw 6 innings in relief, striking out 6 while only hitting a batter. No hits allowed. 59 pitches, with 49 for strikes. One of the best outings I've seen for a long time up there.
Go check out a game up there! New field lighting, new video board, and plenty of good seats available.

I'll be writing about Angeles tonight (I'm sure)...He's the type of popup prospect that you just never plan on, which is what makes the system so fun. The Padres have some tough decisions to make here very soon, they can't fit all their draft picks into the organization due to the cap. Some guys will head back to the Dominican, others will be released outright.

Angeles extends his hitting streak to 23 games. Was in Las Vegas over the weekend, and saw the Thursday thru Sunday El Paso vs Las Vegas games. If the Padres are looking for pitching help, I'm not sure that the Chihuahua's pitching staff is the answer. But, it is definitely a question.

Last night's Storm game at Rancho Cucamonga cancelled due to an unannounced number of positive Covid tests of Storm players. Tonight's game is supposed to be played as scheduled. With a wildly different roster. The Storm put more than a half dozen players on the IL, including Josh Mears.

I'm going to my first ever Storm game next Thursday with my dad for his bday - any recommendations for drink/food/etc? The best I can tell you is--eat elsewhere before the game. The regular concessions are mediocre at best, although they claim to have decent food in the bar/restaurant down the 3rd base line (The Diamond Taproom).
