Go, Jordan. www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sports/aztecs/story/2021-06-10/san-diego-state-sdsu-aztecs-basketball-jordan-schakel-nba-draft-workout-golden-state-warriorsGrowing up in Southern California, Jordan Schakel was like pretty much every other kid who ever dribbled a basketball. He idolized Kobe Bryant. “But there came a certain point where I realized I couldn’t do what Kobe did,” Schakel said. “More realistically, I started watching Klay.” That’s Klay Thompson, the five-time NBA All-Star and three-time NBA champion with the Golden State Warriors who also is 6-foot-6 and also has an affinity for shooting the ball. Schakel modeled his shot after him, the wide base, the high motion, the quick release, the exaggerated follow-through. So you can imagine what it was like Thursday for the SDSU alum to participate in his first post-graduation NBA workout … wearing Warriors gear … in front of Warriors coaches … at the Warriors’ practice facility. ...

Warrior fan here, it would be great see him end up with the Dubs, even for their G League team.
Schakel’s comparison to Klay’s is pretty spot on. Klay is slightly more athletic, which manifests itself as he is slightly better getting to and finishing at the rim and playing defense than Jordan.
But Klay did not come into the league as a great defender. Then head coach Mark Jackson put the entire team through Defensive “boot camp” and it took a few years for Klay to become an elite defender- but he did become one … despite his somewhat limited athleticism. He put a lot of focus and work in to become a top notch defender.
Pre-injury, Klay was one of the best in the league at guarding the other teams best guard/wing- often taking on the best of the opponent’s guards, which takes some of the burden off Steph on the defensive end so he can be Steph on the offensive end.
Klay doesn’t actually get to the rim that much, so that aspect may not be held against Jordan by some teams if they are using a “Klay comp” .. and that was pre-injury. Getting to the rim has not been a big part of his game… but he has been adept at it. Coming off his severe Achilles, I expect he will go to the rim even less.
Also Klay is 6’7”, Jordan is 6’6”, so comparable there.
Like Klay, Jordan moves a ton without the ball.. so again, similar.
The Warriors desperately need shooting for the upcoming season. Jordan could help there.
Jordan would also be a good fit for GS as he is a high work ethic, high character guy who is a winner.
He will check a lot of boxes for the Warriors.

If his 3 point shot remains as deadly in the NBA, he can find a spot on a roster in the league.
The other areas of his gane will determine how often he plays.

Agree with most, but you're underselling Klay's defensive prowess when he came into the league. He played under Bennett for a year, who spends the majority of practice on D, and grew considerably as a defender. He attended a summer camp (LeBron's I believe) where he was defensive MVP. Given he was asked to carry the offensive burden at WSU in 2010 & 2011 he couldn't spend as much energy at the defensive end of the court, but he's always been a very, very good defender, even without elite athleticism. Dutch & Dave V will also tell you Jordan's become one of our best defenders, which is amazing given where he came from. His lateral movement is 2x what it used to be. Like Klay, both make up for any lack in athleticism with smarts & positioning. I followed Klay very closely during his time at WSU (season ticket holder all 3 of his years), and the same with Jordan during his 4 years. The comparisons, both on & off the court, are incredible. Humbleness; mannerisms - extremely similar. Klay was a pretty aggressive player in HS, but he backed off that & was strictly a perimeter player who rarely attacked the basket when he got to WSU. That changed over time, to where he could create pretty well by his junior year. I equate Jordan's last 3 years to Klay's 3, and have seen much of the same progression. Klay was a little better at penetrating with the ball his last year than Jordan during his final year, but they both can create their own perimeter shots very well. The biggest change in Klay was he didn't physically mature much in college - still had the "kid" body. His mom didn't want him to turn pro yet because he hadn't filled out (but Mychal knew better). Since he's filled out it's really made him a more consistent & stronger player. I could see the same happening to Jordan. Klay was also 6'6 when he came out of college. If they're listing him at 6'7 now it's probably a "NBA boost".

to me the two biggest questions for mitchell and schakel to play in the nba:
schakel is his release fast enough against nba defenders.
mitchell is his first steo quick enough to get to the rim or create room to shoot?
