So no changes this year or next year .
The sub group ( including " Hair" ) had been asked to review the current 4 team Playoff - with the Pro 's and Con's
then asked to evaluate expansion going to 6, 8 , 10 ,12 , and 16 - pros and cons - have come up with over 60 options

A 12 team playoff with an Autobid for the top G5 team is all we can really ask for and it makes staying in the MWC less painful.

my prediction is 8.
5 conference champs
3 at large ( 1 dedicated to best non p 5)
only 1 extra week.

It most likely won’t be eight because if the playoffs expand, they’re going to have to give an auto bid to the G5 meaning there’d only be two at large bids for the rest of the P5. I think it’ll be 12

12 will not work. After the first games there would be 6 teams left and after the second there would be 3 teams left , then what would you do?? It willl have to be 8 or 16.

If there is 12 teams the top 4 teams get a bye. The bottom 8 teams play into the bye teams.

I think the 12-team option is about not having a Bama facing the worst team, such as a G5, in the 1st round, like if you went with 8. In theory, the 5th best P5 would most likely end up facing the top G5 which makes for better TV. Then the winners among the bottom 8 face the top 4, who had byes. The 1-seed getting the winner of the 8/9 game, etc. It makes sense, in theory. I'd like it better if the G5 got at least 2 autobids out of 12 though. |

I agree, two bids out of 12 for the G5, but I seriously doubt that happens as it'd "only" leave the P5 with 10 spots. That is still 5 at-large berths, so maybe that'll be enough to satisfy the P5 power brokers, but most likely not.

Wow, Hair is gonna need at least 6 months to come up with a plan that gives Boise special treatment...and oh btw, we're probably screwed. |

You are correct on that point. The only way they could have a 12 team play off schedule is if a couple teams get a week off, and play the winners of an additional play off game. The best schedule is either 8 or 16. |

If that's the thinking behind the 12-team format it's definitely the worst possible expansion option available. Whatever happens it has to include a G5 guarantee IMO. Nobody wants to see 6 SEC teams out of the 12. The divide would only get wider, not only between the P5's & G5's, but between the SEC & P12, etc. Horrible idea. Worst case would have to be 6 guaranteed spots (1 G5, each P5 conf), + 6 at-large, but even that's still missing the boat. EDIT: This quote within definition makes things better - "The proposal calls for the bracket to include the six highest-ranked conference champions and the six remaining highest-ranked teams as determined by the CFP selection committee." This guarantees a G5 conference champion is included, while not limiting the # of G5's included. In theory, an undefeated (or even 1-loss) SDSU & Cincy could BOTH be guaranteed a spot over a 3-loss P12 team, which has been known the happen. I'm sure that'd be rare, but the possibility is there. Still not a fan of the "no limit on number from any 1 conference" aspect though (e.g. 5 SEC teams, etc.). |

A 12-team playoff would work the same as the several 12-team playoffs currently work all around the country, including the P12 basketball tournament, etc. Top 4 byes; bottom 8 playoff. #1 seed plays winner of 8/9 game, etc. It's been working for decades, and from that perspective I do like the 12-team option. The best thing about it is it avoids the #1 team facing the lowest seeded team, presumably the G5 squad. Doubt anyone wants to watch that debacle. The 12th seed would have a much better shot at beating the 5th seed (then 4th seed), than any of top 2 seeded teams IMO, and it makes for a better format. An 8-team playoff is fine as well, but I think the odds of a G5 ever winning a CFP game would be extremely low because I don't see any way a G5 isn't the 7th or 8th seed. |

#6 Oklahoma
#4 Notre Dame vs. #12 Coastal Carolina
#5 Texas AM vs. #11 Indiana
#7 Florida vs. #10 Iowa State
#8 Cincinnati vs. #9 Georgia
Two G5 teams would have been in and one would even have had a home game. Pac-12 would not have been represented.
