Anyone who cares more about the name of a mascot vs. the university itself... F you. I will support my alma mater no matter the stupid mascot name. And yeah, I'll increase my donations to help compensate for anyone weak enough to allow a mascot to affect their support to SDSU. You better be ready to pony up A LOT of money, because it sounds like A LOT of people are pissed off about this.

All I want to know is what standard is being applied to retiring the mascot and who supports it. And When is someome from the admin going to come out with a press relase: "The name and colors of the univeristy are not changing. We believe the name Aztecs is done with respect to cultural and the region of San Diego. We are all Aztecs."

While I will continue to support the University what do you think the response if the Trojans were dropped as USC's mascot or for that fact the Spartans of Michigan State. This is ridiculous we as an institution have been very respectful of the dead Aztecs culture and it has nothing to do with the local Indian tribes. I'm personally disappointed in our President deferring to some guy that apparently has psychological issues and has his feelings hurt by an Aztec warrior. Has he read the history of the Aztecs? I doubt it. So I guess the new stadium won't be called Aztec Warrior Stadium. What's next getting rid of the warrior shield, the Warrior position in the football team, the Aztecs calendar on the helmets because it offended this minor professor? Come on we can do better than this. Unfortunately this will hurt the University at a very critical time.

The Aztecs by any other name are just as sweet. This is not as big a deal as some are making it out to be.

People don't care about "the Name", we would be supporting SDSU if they were called the "banana slugs". (OK, maybe not, JK), but we care about the ideology and "reasoning" behind changing the name.

It is interesting how it's "offensive" to build mascots around some ancient cultures, and not others.
That being said, I think that this is more about the SDSU administration wanting to eventually switch to a Kumeyaay mascot.
Which would be fine FWIW. But taking offense to Aztec mascots, and not Spartans (or other mascots) is comical.
What, it's okay to glorify European civilizations like Greece, but it's offensive to glorify conquered civilizations in the Americas like the Aztecs?

You better be ready to pony up A LOT of money, because it sounds like A LOT of people are pissed off about this. One of the biggest reasons Claude Gilbert was fired was because of the change he made in the home football uniforms. That change made a lot of boosters angry and left him with a much smaller margin of error as a coach.

One of the biggest reasons Claude Gilbert was fired was because of the change he made in the home football uniforms. That change made a lot of boosters angry and left him with a much smaller margin of error as a coach. Interesting, and unfortunate. Extremely unfortunate As you know, the firing of Claude let to the long Aztec football drought.
Claude was fired for 3 main reasons, IMO.
1. He wasn't Don Coryell. Many very good coaches following legends suffer by comparison and aren't able to overcome it. Claude tried very hard to establish his own identity as the Aztec coach. In doing that he ...
2. Changed the home all black uniforms and changed the style of play. As I said, this angered a lot of long time fans and even though both decisions were later changed, not all the hard feelings from some of the fans went away.
3. And, of course, the one that is most often cited is being forced to switch from the Jr. College recruiting that had been so successful under Coryell to almost exclusively high school recruiting led to a couple of bad years as the transition was being made. If Claude had been allowed to transition from Jr. College to high school recruiting at a slower pace we may not have suffered those bad years and Claude might have survived here.
I apologize for taking this thread off topic.

The Aztec Name will be in the chopping block next. As they described in the resolution, the authors disfavor using the Aztec name and imagery instead of the Kumeyaay.
They have been successful in bringing down the Aztec Warrior, we must refuse them the ability to rename to Kumeyaay.
After years of being told that it is cultural appropriation, to then be hoisted their chosen name to honor. That’s the great irony, they have been banging on about how it’s offensive only to desire to honor the Kumeyaay.
I now appreciate Stanford renaming to the Cardinals.

the President's statement she Wants the Aztecs nickname to stay Aztecs
Groups will then decide what they feel would be best for the "cheer leader " or what ever the term to be used so SDSU AZTECS will remain as it is

This is nothing more than good ole fashioned mob mentality, IMO. These advocates have years told us that that using the Aztec, Ute, Seminole, Hawkeye, and other tribe or nation names is cultural appropriation and an affront to those tribes dignity and honor. All at the same time saying that the 49'ers name is affront as well since it is "honoring" the people and time of the gold rush. And even now, in the case of the Aztecs, they are seeking to have it renamed to Kumeyaay. It's illogical, but the point isn't to be logical. The point is to exert and acquire power and to create a ruckus. JMO.
