When General MacArthur was forced to leave the Philippines by the invading Japanese he was quoted very widely as saying "I shall return". Tatis today made a better return than MacArthur did. Single + stolen base, home run, double, double. What a way to return.
Historical note: there was no reason to return to the Philippines. Everyone but MacArthur wanted to bypass the Philippines because it was not necessary to defeat Japan. They gave in to MacArthur because it was not worth fighting him and would get very political. There was a lot of unnecessary lives lost because of that decision. It was merely an ego thing with MacArthur.

Tatis Jr. has a flair for the dramatic, I love that. The bigger the moment, the more he seems to step up and deliver. Just stay healthy kid and great things will follow.
I’m going to argue that the Philippines invasion was necessary. The South China Sea needed to be controlled to keep Japan from it’s primary oil source in Indonesia. Peleiu should have probably been bypassed, that was an unnecessary bloodbath ordered by Gen MacArthur. Two of my uncles were at Leyte Gulf, the largest naval battle in history.

Tatis bow 11-14 since his return with 4 Hrs and a bunch of doubles. His OPS is now 1.111. He would be leading MLB in that stat if he qualified. They could have bypassed and isolated the Philippines bombing the air strips to make them ineffective. Japan's surrender could have freed the Philippines.

The Navy did that before the invasion, with over 20 CV’s of all types. I believe you underestimate the importance petroleum played in WWII objectives. Hitler didn’t send an army down to North Africa because it was his favorite vacation spot. True, he hated Stalin’s guts, but the Soviet Union’s massive oil reserves were essential for Germany to continue it’s plans of conquest, that’s why he took the substantial risk of poking the Russian Bear. Japan attacked the US because of an oil embargo (among other reasons) and Indonesia was Tojo’s main gas station. MacArthur wanted to liberate the Philippines, but he also knew the importance gas supplies played in a military’s ability to make war. The US Navy had to control the South China Sea to ground Japan’s planes and keep the warships in the harbor. BTW, Tatis.....wow! 2 HR’s today, crushing the ball.

"Tatis continues to rewrite early career records. On Wednesday, the Padres’ superstar shortstop came off the COVID-19 injured list to go 4-for-4 and finish a triple shy of the cycle. On Sunday, he drilled a 441-foot home run, then outdid himself with a 447-foot grand slam. Since his return, he is 11-for-14 with four doubles, four home runs, 12 RBIs, three walks, one strikeout and three stolen bases. “He looks so under control,” Padres manager Jayce Tingler said. Tatis on Friday became the fastest shortstop to reach 50 career home runs. Now, through 173 games, he has gone deep 52 times. After Sunday’s 9-2 win against the Mariners, he opted to focus on a collective effort. The Padres, who went 7-1 while Tatis was on the injured list, own the majors’ best record and best run differential."

Bypassing and isolating the Philippines would allow no oil to be Supplied to Japan. It was a useless and costly Endeavor to militarily Liberate the Philippines that never would have happened without MacArthur's politics.
