Cronenworth goes inside-the-park today. But...I have to feel sorry for Blackmon in RF. Dude is playing hurt, and it showed on that play. WHY is he playing hurt is my question. It's not like the Rox have any chance of making the playoffs this year - do they not have a single RF prospect they can bring up? Probably has a clause in his contract if he plays a certain amount of games, or if he gets a certain amount of hits, etc,, he gets a bonus. Just speculating.

Blackmon has been one of the worst rated defensive outfielders for multiple seasons now. He's injured, yes, but they signed him to that extension and he immediately responded by becoming the worst center fielder in baseball from a defensive metrics standpoint. The farm system in Colorado is a barren wasteland. Then it's a good thing that Blackmon hasn't played CF since 2018. I don't think that Blackmon was ever out there for his defense anyway. That was the point of my post - He immediately had to move off the position as soon as the extension was signed, basically. Losing value when you do that.

Crone is a lefty, not a righty. The CF should have been shaded towards right. Except he isn't a traditional pull hitter. What side of the plate the batter hits from isn't the key - It's the direction they hit the ball most frequently. Only 26% of Cronenworth's contact is to the pull side. Yet they play him to pull and shift on him virtually every at bat.

Nice play by Cronenworth in the 10th to get the runner at the plate.

Nice play by Cronenworth in the 10th to get the runner at the plate. That runner was out by a mile. No hesitation, and a perfect strike thrown. Cronenworth's got some jewels … and the Padres really made out on the deal that brought him here.

He could have crushed Caratini on that play, but he didn't even attempt a slide. It was a very bizarre sequence.

I think the announcers tried to cover what Hiura might have been thinking (if he was thinking at all). That was definitely a brain fart. I have seen way too many years of Padres brain cramps, so it's always nice to see someone else come up with a head-scratching moment.

Yeah, I just have no idea what he was thinking by not sliding, but we'll take it. Nice to be on the opposite side for once, for sure.

Crone with a massive baserunning blunder. Can't happen against deGrom.

Crone with a massive baserunning blunder. Can't happen against deGrom. Just how is that a massive baserunning blunder? He was in no-man's-land, but still made it to 3rd base with less than 2 outs.

A bigger blunder was having Mercano at the plate with bases loaded… as Tommy'd say, he couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat.

Because A) The play is in front of you and there was no chance Smith was going to catch it. And B) You have to recognize who is pitching. Opportunities are going to be limited. He got a really poor read on a really poor fielder. It happens, but it's painful.

I think he scores easily if he doesn't go back to second.
