Gotta wonder how baseball players from the past would've dealt with this. Pretty sure they wouldn't be calling all the shots (as it were)…

Of course you can't force anyone, but if I'm in a profession where I'm forced to be in close proximity with my co-workers and traveling half the time, I'm doing everything in my power to avoid getting this virus - and experts agree the #1 prophylactic at this point is getting the vaccine. Seems idiotic and selfish for these players and coaches not to get it at this point when it's readily available. And yes, you might miss a game or two due to side-effects - but isn't that better than your superstars concurrently going on the IL for days? I get what you're saying but Paddack had the vaccine and it didn't keep him from testing positive and the same for the Yankee coaches and others. So because there's rare instances of positivities after vaccine that's a justification for not getting it? How is that different than not wearing a condom because you've heard of rare instances of people still getting pregnant or STDs?

I usually side with players when it comes to players vs. greedy owner debates, but in this instance, no. If I'm paying a guy 300M to be on the field, he damn well can do the bare minimum and get the damn vax.

How is that different than not wearing a condom because you've heard of rare instances of people still getting pregnant or STDs? Where have I said it's not a good idea? The POINT IS Paddack DID get vaccinated & still got it; Myers is reportedly vaccinated but due to tracing STILL has to sit. You can be vaccinated & still test positive & still spread the disease. It's not like wearing a condom & being 98% sure you're good to go. Being vaccinated isn't going to necessarily stop players from testing positive and missing time. Don't get me wrong - I wish they were, or at least 90% of the way there, but many of these guys weren't even eligible until they were into their season, and even if they did get it they could still fail MLB's testing standards. If they were going by whether or not the person gets really sick, which is the main benefit of the vaccine, they'd be playing but their tests are completely different.

No argument with what you write. My beef is that it's pretty clear, from Tinger's comments, that there's been non-compliance amongst the team re non getting vaxed, when there's no excuse for not getting it now that it's readily available - and as we've seen, getting vaxed is directly responsible for CA's current #2 in the nation lowest rates.

And I just seconds ago read that if a fully vaccinated player is involved in contact tracing they just have to show they are not showing any signs & they can be added back in to the player mix, so it would have helped those around Tatis & Myers get back sooner.

Following up re: really having no control over this other than staying in a bubble (from ESPN's article):
_________________
The New York Yankees have placed Gleyber Torres on the COVID-19 injured list after the shortstop tested positive for the coronavirus for the second time in less than a year.
The Yankees announced Torres' diagnosis Thursday, saying he "was fully vaccinated and previously had COVID-19 during the most recent baseball offseason."
"Certainly unexpected," Yankees manager Aaron Boone said of Torres. "Obviously everyone, Major League Baseball, that's in charge of testing is looking into that. The variants that could be out there if that is the case."
The Yankees have confirmed eight cases of COVID-19 this week, with Torres being the first player to test positive over that stretch. The previous seven cases had been among the Yankees' coaching and support staffs, including pitching coach Matt Blake, third-base coach Phil Nevin and first-base coach Reggie Willits.
All eight people who tested positive were fully vaccinated for COVID-19, with Boone saying they all received the Johnson & Johnson shot. All eight are asymptomatic but continue to test positive, Boone said.

Hmmmmmmm Yeah, I remember showing up for my 1st vax and seeing it was Pfizer and thinking, "Aw, nuts, wish it was the J&J so I can be one and done" but turns out the J&J has had the most issues of the three, by far. A co-worker woman has been having major side-effects and missed many days due to it. That said, the alternative (not getting vaxed at all) seems like a very bad idea when you're talking about a novel virus that can kill you.

I felt the same way you did at first regarding J&J 1 dosage. I got pfizer as well.

Slightly off subject, but did you guys catch the story of a Padre season ticket holder who volunteered for a vaccine clinical trial? It was for another vaccine (spacing on name) and she did receive the vaccine and therefore received her vaccinated card
Her season seats are in a vaccinated section BUT since she wasn't vaccinated by one of the 3 emergency approved vaccines her card is worthless. Padres turned her away. She can't get a different vaccine for several months.
I'd be PISSED! You volunteer to do good but end up with a worthless (at least in the agencies eyes) vaccine and nothing you can do about it. Anyway, this thread made me think of that story.

I would be surprised if she had gotten her actual season seats--even if they were in a vaccinated section. Season ticket holders were moved all over the ballpark. I haven't been close to my season seats yet this year.

Was listening to 97.3 pregame yesterday and according to them it's players' discretion - couldn't believe it, I thought for sure the entire team would be vaxed by now. Just like the anti-vaxers here, I guess some peeps have to learn the hard way before trusting science. Both the Yankee coaches who tested positive were fully vaccinated. Being vaccinated doesn't guarantee anything unfortunately. I’m not doubting your statement, but there is soooo much conflicting information out there about the vaccine. If you listen to the CBS/CNN’s, the vaccines are working like a charm and provide protection vs newer strains. This outbreak is unfortunate and could cost the Padres a “shot” at the playoffs or World Series.

The double-shot vaccines reduce the risk of infection by 80% after just a single dose and then increasing percentages after #2 + two or more weeks after vaccination. Many studies thus far have confirmed this, has nothing to do with left-leaning media saying so. But yes, by all means, don't let me stop you from your on-going crusade as AztecMesa's #1 thread jacker.

Update from ESPN re team compliance: 5 new teams (doesn't say which) now up to the 85% vax threshold, bringing the total now to 12/30 teams. Still head-shakingly low IMHO given the potential repercussions of a team outbreak. www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/31444538/mlb-allowing-five-more-teams-relax-covid-19-protocols-vaccinations

The media is lapping up the vaccine coverage because hey, everyone's excited to get vaccinated and go about their lives. Also, the pandemic has had a huge mental health impact on people, and they just want to be free to go about living their lives without fear. But also, even with newer strains mutating, you still gain some immunity to the newer strains from the vaccine. It will still prevent serious health complications. But yeah, you could catch COVID again. For all we know, this could end up being like the flu if we can't get ahead of this damn virus fast enough, we may never be able to fully contain it. We may be vaccinating ourselves yearly like we do with the flu shot. Both of you are right. All we can do is our best to fight the pandemic.

If true, you would have just said "broadcasted on the news" in your OP - instead you chose "CBS/CNN’s" which is just a continuation of your "liberals bad" narrative from other threads.
