Easily the top two position player prospects in the organization right now, both off to really strong starts in their return to organized baseball games.
Hassell : 7-24 (.292), 10 runs scored, 2 doubles, a triple, 2 home runs, 6 RBI. More walks than strikeouts (8:7), including 4 walks yesterday in a game where he reached base all 5 times. Won't turn 20 until August 15th.
Abrams : The Padres skipped CJ from Low-A all the way to San Antonio and unforgiving Wolff Stadium. CJ apparently doesn't care where he plays.
8-25 (.320), 3 doubles, 1 home run, 5 RBI, 2 stolen bases. Currently sporting a .414 OBP. Won't turn 21 until after the season is over.

Both of these guys should be off the table in terms of trading, especially Hassell, he has thunder in his bat.

CJ Abrams OFS. Fractured left tibia and sprained MCL, after a collision with 2nd baseman Eguy Rosario, in a game on Wednesday.

Brutal blow as he would have been up in September for a cup of coffee.

Robert Hassell III (not counting tonight where he's 2-2 with a walk and two stolen bases)...
.398/.494/.507.

Robert Hassell III (not counting tonight where he's 2-2 with a walk and two stolen bases)... .398/.494/.507. Hopefully, he'll still be playing this well by September. August can suck the life out of baseball players. Especially in the minors. The endless bus trips, the heat, the cramped quarters, the heat …

Just a very, very good hitter.

Hassell and Hosmer plus cash to Rangers for Gallo? Possible. + Gibson, and a decent Padres prospect or two and that sounds about right Not that I'm remotely excited about the idea of trading Hassell

I was very surprised to read from Dennis Lin this AM, that Hassell was offered in the trade. And, I am glad TEX ultimately dealt Gallo to NYY.
I’m a huge fan of Hassells. Now I gta hope he isnt moved for Berrios.
“ Gallo had gone from the Rangers to the Yankees. According to sources, the Padres attempted to land the All-Star outfielder by offering first baseman Eric Hosmer, outfield prospect Robert Hassell III and a significant amount of cash. They balked at adding more cash toward the end, however.”

Being over the luxury tax already with improvements still needed is a problem. I'm not surprised at all, and I'm the biggest Hassell junkie around.

Sometimes, your best deals are the deals that weren't made. We'll know if that's true at the end of the year, and if Hassell turns out to be a gem.
