I don't know if it makes much of a difference but I Wonder if we would land more of our recruits if we were in a P5 Conference ?

a resounding YES and a major reason Power Conferences may not want to elevate schools similar to SDSU - would raise our value and make it easier for us to recruit so do not look for an invite from the PAC -
schools will start to use a similar point soon against Kansas

I don't know if it makes much of a difference but I Wonder if we would land more of our recruits if we were in a P5 Conference ? Conference affiliation definitely can be a big factor, but programs like Gonzaga, Memphis, Houston & others have gone a long way in reversing that perception. But IMO it's more about individual programs than what conference they're in - we'll often "win" head to head when recruiting against mid-tier P6 teams, but it's hard to compete against the UCLA's, USC's, Oregon's, UA's, etc. out west (unless you ARE Gonzaga).

Little doubt that Not being in the PAC or another Power Conference hurts when the Aztecs or other quality G5 schools are recruiting players or even having our coaches "promoted " to a Power Conference School
So a great example of why Power Conferences do not want schools similar to the Aztecs , Zags , Houston , Memphis , Cincy ....to become a member of their conference . It elevates Schools to the same level and makes it more difficult to recruit players or keep coaches .
Yes after numerous years of doing well the Zags have reached a higher level .
