Mighta been 5-1 if Joe had just stayed put on 2nd… well, he's paid to pitch, not to hit and run bases. (and he's done his share of both tonight) The Giants lead baseball in offense for a reason. Capitalized on a ball Profar should have caught and then a mistake curveball. The Giants do the little things right. That's experience and coaching.

The Giants are winners. The Padres are not.

The Giants scored two runs off of sacrifice fly's tonight. The Padres scored zero runs off of sac fly's tonight.
Pham double clutched the throw to the plate (which was otherwise perfect btw) and then Nola can't hold onto/doesn't have time to hold onto the ball to prevent the 6th run from scoring.
Melancon gives up three singles (which is mostly all that people can get off of him, his cutter is really difficult to barrel up), and a bloop single just outside of Tatis's reach, just barely is able to score the winning run.
We hit four home runs and lose.
You know, part of it is execution, part of it is coaching, and part of it is just bad luck. The Padres should have won, could have won - but didn't.

None of the three singles by the Giants had exit velocities of greater than 75 MPH. Manny's double play ball? 112.

It's not about exit velocity here, it's about making hits when and where needed and making pitches when and where needed.
The Giants do this and the Padres apparently can't.
Good grief.

Many, many examples. The first guy that popped into my head is Tony Gwynn, but there's many other's that can place a ball as well. They're all professionals and some do it better than others.

It's great, and I guess a nice consolation prize to know that you're dialed in on the pitcher by hitting it on the barrel at a great exit velocity, but it's even better when you have the knack to hit the ball where they ain't at ANY speed.

Yeah, it's called luck in a lot of cases. Skill comes to mind in this case. It's not a skill to not barrel a ball. If that were the case, the Padres would be the most skilled team in baseball.

It takes skill to get a piece of the ball on a good 0-2 pitch that fooled you, and you were able to drive it through the infield, or to the right side for a hit, no matter what the exit velocity speed was.

Joe gets his 200th K today! Well deserved… So of course the dugout genius (Jayce E. Coyote, Super Genius) takes him out after 70 pitches in 5 innings.
