Poway Fun Bowl (32 lanes), Mira Mesa Lanes (44 lanes), and as of yesterday, Kearny Mesa Bowl (40 lanes) have all given up and closed permanently. While it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that Poway Fun Bowl was going to close before Covid, Mira Mesa and Kearny Mesa stuck it out, hoping that California would join the rest of the nation and allow bowling centers to reopen with restrictions in place, as they have in just about every other state in this country--and as they did locally for June and early July, with restrictions in place, and no Covid outbreaks.
However...the ownership group that owns both Mira Mesa Lanes (January) and Kearny Mesa Bowl (March 1st) made the decision to cease operations. Other than boutique centers (12 lanes or fewer) or military bases, there are 4 bowling centers left in San Diego County--Bowlero in San Marcos, Surf Bowl in Oceanside, Bowlero in Chula Vista, and Parkway Bowl in El Cajon. Those who have been in the San Diego area for many years will remember the days of bowling centers all over the county. Almost too numerous to mention. Small and large centers alike.

Shockingly, Mira Mesa Lanes has been saved, after it was announced yesterday (3/8) that a group from So Cal has purchased the center, and will reopen it just as soon as it is allowed by the county and state.

Most of the rest of the nation doesn't have a Newsome as a governor. He went to far as in a dictator, or control freak. The power went to his head and now he's possibly getting recalled. By the way, I love bowling!!! Really miss it.

By the way, I love bowling!!! Really miss it. Once the centers reopened in June (for what turned out to be only a few weeks), I saw first hand what the centers were doing to stay open. Cleaning like they never had before. Spreading people out everywhere in the center. Cleaning house balls with either ultraviolet lights or disinfectant after each use. Everyone wore masks. But it still wasn't enough for the state and county. And there were no Covid outbreaks in any local bowling center, but it didn't matter. And more rumors abound--Chula Vista Bowlero (East H St) may not reopen. Parkway has been for sale for months, but they claim they will reopen as a bowling center when allowed to. People have no idea of the costs involved to run a bowling center. Mira Mesa and Kearny Mesa were at a disadvantage in that they didn't own the property their centers were on. Parkway does, and I'm not sure about Chula Vista Bowlero. I am still amazed that Kearny Mesa and Mira Mesa went as long as they did before pulling the plug (and thankfully, someone plugged Mira Mesa back in ).

They work their asses off to show that they're complying and going above and beyond AND getting the no positive test results, but still get shut down. People lose their jobs, and people lose what they looked forward to once or twice a week as entertainment, especially the bowling leagues. It definitely affected the elderly, who looked forward to maybe their only extra curricular activity they could do. Sad.

It gets worse. Apparently, Parkway Bowl is in escrow, with the buyers having no intention of keeping the bowling center.
However, there could be a new center opening up in the near future in the El Cajon/Santee area.

Regarding Parkway Bowl--apparently, any deals to buy the land Parkway Bowl sits on have collapsed, so Parkway Bowl reopens today at 2 pm.

California currently has second-lowest rate of COVID-19 spread compared to all other states, so perhaps Newsom did not go too far after all. 3. The recall is like your buddy Trump: ridiculous, but dangerous. Caitlyn Jenner could hypothetically end up as gov. Yeah, things would really get headed in the right direction then

Trump is not my buddy, but if it makes you feel better to say that, have at it. And, Newsome will win, since he's in the pockets of many people and organizations.

Decisions by Newsom are a major reason why bowling centers throughout the state were struggling--if not outright closed for good--during the pandemic. Bowling centers were just low-hanging fruit for the state to close, along with with many other (allegedly) "non-essential" businesses.

Thanks Newsome.

If you check my history here you'll see I've never corrected anyone on spelling before, so I'm hardly the police. Just trying to help a fellow Aztec not look like an idiot. For example, grammar doesn't include spelling. Not that you're interested in learning, I note that you re-misspelled Newsom, so you're obviously happy looking uneducated. 2. Please give me an example of the "fiasco it had been" and how Newsom was directly responsible. 3. Not your buddy? Could have fooled me with how you've defended him ad nauseam on the poli-board the past few years.

"Learn how to spell his mame correctly." So, you set the tone. There's many reasons for a misspelled word(s) on the internet and autocorrect was the reason for this. But, yeah, I purposely misspelled his name after that as a gift to you. Oh yeah, and thanks for letting me be your first candidate to go "Grammar" Police on. Yes, I used Grammar Police just for you as well. You can thank me later.

Bowling centers in this state were affected by Newsom's decisions. That is a fact. And California bowling centers were some of the last to reopen nationwide--assuming the centers were still able to reopen. I didn't start this thread to bash the governor, but his decisions (and those of CDPH) did lead to the demise of a number of bowling centers in this state. This hits close to home for me, as I worked in this industry for 14 years, and have (or had) many friends who still do (or at least did) work in the industry.
