He has no other college offers? Who, Johnson? His other to finalists were UNLV & Pepperdine, so he obviously had offers. He just hadn't blown up yet due to Covid-19 & other factors, as noted in the article.

Was there even a thread on this guy before he committed? Kind of hilarious we have threads for what seems like everyone we're even interested in (let alone offer) and we didn't have one on Johnson

Great pickup for the Aztecs. An athletic rim protector with a jump shot.
How many other recruits in this class? Last year was backcourt heavy, another post player?

After watching a few highlights from him, the biggest thing for me is that he JUST turned 17! He's still growing, still learning.

Some say he's RAW but I do have faith in our coaches. He fits the athletic stretch 4 kind of player we usually need.
Oldie Out

He was on Dutcher 's ( per Gundo ) top 5 hopeful recruits
Per the rating predictions - seen as the 27th best 5 in the country - Did not make the top 150 recruits but seen as one of the best who did not make it - labeled a "sleeper " or "under the radar" type guy
As noted young 17 year old guy - that has the " Potential " to be a very good player as he grows and develops - both in height , frame and time on the court
Likes to play around the basket and very good Rim Protector ( sounds familiar ) Raw talent on offense but can run the floor well and is athletic

Is he going to sign early (11/11--11/18) or regular(4/14/21--14/19/21) just wondering, you seem to be the most informed on this site.

I really like that we are getting someone at a position that we need, with length and athleticism. He can learn from Nathan Mensah next year on the bench, and then hopefully contribute in his second year of the program. Considering that no freshmen will be getting minutes next year in our program (unless they are a 5 star recruit IMO), I think it's a good thing that we getting an under the radar 3 star recruit. Under the radar 2 star (J Franklin) and 3 star (Kawaii) recruits is what built our program into what it is today. Skylar Spencer was a 3 star, 25-30'th ranked center type too.

I would say he will be a good candidate to redshirt unless we feel the need for a shot blocker. He is younger than most incoming freshmen so a RS doesn't hurt him as much down the line as a potential pro-prospect. Add to that would be the lack of a big time atmosphere this year playing in empty arenas and the fact he is notably pretty raw, it seems to make sense for him to get an extra year to develop.

Well, if he doesn't sign by the 18th, he is verbally but not emotionally committed nor a solid get.

Well, if he doesn't sign by the 18th, he is verbally but not emotionally committed nor a solid get. That's what I am saying and now with an offer from SDSU it just bumped him up another level in the recruiting wars. The Aztecs will have to wait another 5 months tell he can sign if they get him this round. Remember in Sales, You better know your ABC's!

At this point the coaches have never seen him play, have not met him and he has never been on campus. They may want both sides to look each other over better before making a signed 4 year commitment. Especially if they are planning to take only two freshman this year. Slowing the roll on this makes sense.
It is great that Keshad has made this recommendation that has resulted in an offer. But, the coaches need to do their due diligence on all guys coming in.
