Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports tweeted about the MSU defense under Zach Arnett and how Syracuse played against UNC recently under Tony White. Maybe we get a defensive coaching tree stemming from Rocky.

On CBS LSU vs MSU. Rocky D! You're a fountain of information. It was something about MSU’s blitzing sceme coming from SDSU. It was mentioned a couple of times. First time was very surprising as I’m not used to SDSU being mentioned during the SEC game of the week.

When you consider that a very fine defensive scheme developed by Rocky or anyone for that matter at a G5 school, and use it very successfully in defeating P5 schools like CAL,Stanford,ASU,& UCLA (especially when two of those defeats came against Ranked teams) you can bet that coaches at P5 schools will start to pay attention.
It was just a matter of time before they start learning and using his defense, or parts of it. They understood how difficult it could be for offenses to overcome! It is very confusing to understand because it can look different on every play.

Coach Arnett's defense doing a good job against last years National Champs at home. You can see a lot of similarities with Rocky's 3-3-5 in the gap blitz packages and QB pressures.
Oldie Out

I just feel like Rocky will always be a UNM Hobo and his legacy will be just that. We were fortunate to have him and he did great things here and won a lot of games. It was a great ride and we were lucky to have had him but he went home. I sure hope folks outside of State remember his success, contributions and splendid personality. 😂. We are gonna miss the Rock but we certainly have been luck the last few coaching changes with Brady and the Rock.

He did attend and play for New Mexico, and I guarantee you he will not be forgotten here in San Diego at all with all the records he set coaching the Aztecs! Just like the Modelo Beer commercial says (and it is very true also!) "It's not where you came from, it's what you are made of!" And Rocky was a very special and good coach that new how to get the most out of his players! Yes, we will miss Rocky especially his non-B.S. way of coaching! He always said it like it was!

If we had a year with Don Coryell's offense and Rocky's defense we would be unbeatable.

If we had a year with Don Coryell's offense and Rocky's defense we would be unbeatable. Yep. Or some of our offenses from the 90’s. I really liked our offense in 96. It’s too bad we didn’t have a decent offense last season or we would have played in the Cotton bowl.

If we had a year with Don Coryell's offense and Rocky's defense we would be unbeatable. You may be too young to have seen Coryell's teams. We had great defensive teams back then. The offense was incredible, of course, but one of the reasons the offense was able to score so much is that the defense got them the ball back so quickly. Take a look at the players we put in the NFL in those days. Lots of them were defense players.

At one time we had 6 DBs starting in the NFL. Willie Buchanon, Herm Edwards, and Joe Lavender were the ones I remember. Trying to recall the other three before I resort to looking it up.

If we had a year with Don Coryell's offense and Rocky's defense we would be unbeatable. Possibly, but since college teams change personnel quite a bit from year to year it isn't always easy to go unbeaten. Just for an example look what happened this past Saturday when last year's unbeaten national champ LSU just got beat on their home field by Mississippi St., 44-34. they could not deal with Mike Leach's Miss. St. offense who ran wild on them. The one thing that made Coryell's offense so good is that his passing offense in the 60's was more sophisticated than what most colleges were running or use to seeing at that time and they had difficulty defensing or understanding it. In fact, one of his best QB's, Brian Sipe, mentioned when he got into the pros with Cleveland. He said, that the passing offense of the Cleveland Brown's was fairly easy to learn, and he had seen a much more sophisticated and difficult pass offense in college under Coryell.

I heard that too!
Shocked the SEC Network talked about us. A lot of college football fans do know and respect Rocky. Not your casual fans of P5 schools but the more serious fans have an appreciation for guys like Rocky.
I'm friends with a ton of USC alums and they wish they had Rocky the last few years in LA.
