The NCAAs selected 11/25 the day before Thanksgiving as the start as most school semesters will be over, and less of a student population, plus on-line learning would be completed.
1. NCAA reduced the maximum games from 31 to 27
2. Reduced the minimum DI qualifying games to 13 to be eligible for the NCAAs
3. Must be a minimum 4 out of conference (OOC) games: local rivals, holiday tournaments, regional travel to be eligible for the NCAAs, this to help for selection and seeding purposes.
4. Encouraged full conference schedules
5. What’s next for the MWC???

Starting near the end of November would allow us to play several non-conference games. That would be close to normal.

AzWm The Diamond Head Classic is scheduled on Dec 22, 23 & 25. 94 Days away as listed on ESPN. espnevents.com/hawaiian-airlines-diamond-head-classic/Schools: AZTECS, ASU, Hawaii, Oklahoma, No Texas St, St Mary's, Seattle and Temple. I haven't seen anything about cancelling or rescheduling and hope it remains in tact for us. We need the OOC games against ASU, Okla or St Mary's to count. Is the MWC A10 Challenge on? We're supposed to play StL Univ another Top 25 preseason team

AzWm If our only timetable to play OOC games is the month before MWC play starts by couple byes in conference games I think you are probably looking at around 8 ooc games and some will be cupcakes.

We're supposed to play StL Univ another Top 25 preseason team Diamondhead still appears to be on, but moving to Orlando. If not, there's rumor of the tournament in Vegas which could include ASU & St Mary's, among others. Let's say Diamondhead happens, that's 3 games, meaning we can play a total of 24 regular season games minus 18 conference, meaning a maximum of 6 individual non-conference games. St Louis & ASU (Dec 10 game) both were on the table for Dec, so could remain as is. Alcorn St was Nov, but I'm sure is now off the table altogether. Grand Cyn & CSF were also Nov, and could still be included. If we do play SLU, ASU & GCU, those were on the road, plus the 3 Neutral site games in Orlando, leaves a total of 3 Non-Con games in Viejas, assuming they don't add a 4th neutral site game in Orlando outside of Diamondhead. 1 hopefully is still BYU. I think the odds of us playing ASU are really high, whether at their place or in a tournament somewhere. The others are still questionable, although the potential to play SMC also appears to be high, given Vegas has been mentioned as a back-up to Orlando if the Diamondhead falls thru or we choose not to travel that far. I could see a UCR or UCI type of game being 1 of the 3 in Viejas - someone who can bus rather than fly to minimize payouts. Probably a cupcake to start the season, such as a UCSD or the like. Right now it's chaos, but at the same time there are plenty of options & really not that many games to fill given we will most likely only play 6 (or 7 if we play a 2-game tourney vs. 3-game in Orlando) games outside of conference & some "bubble" tournament somewhere. As for our SOS, not worried at all. We'll get at least 2 if not 3 really good non-con games, and this year it's a known fact that NET is going to have to play less of a role in at-large selections & the committee is going to have to rely on the eyeball test a lot more. Boise, USU, UNLV & CSU along should make this conference pretty formidable.

I've heard that some conference members are lobbying to start the 20 conference game schedule this year instead of next. I don't think there's any way that happens this year unless booking non-con proves impossible. The Mountain Division teams have troubles scheduling home games during normal times and probably even more trouble under current conditions. They are probably the ones pushing for it.

Looks like we're about 35 days off from the 1st official basketball practice (Oct 14th), although they can do 8 hours a week currently. I would also think that means we have about 3-4 weeks before we start seeing non-con schedules filled up and released. Here's a summary of what we know:
- 18 game MWC schedule, starting in late December - Can have 24-25 total games if NOT playing a MTE; up to 27 if they are - Diamondhead is tentatively still on, but dates TBD. Most likely happening in 1st 2 weeks in Orlando. If true, that's 3 games.
Leaves 6 additional non-con games in total (27-3-18).
My guess: - We'll try for 1 crossover game, meaning 1 game against another team staying in Orlando for another tournament but not part of Diamondhead - BYU & ASU could still be on the table
That potentially leaves 3. I would expect 2 of those to be "bus" games - teams nearby, whether cupcakes like UCSD, Cal-Poly, etc., or a UCI, etc.
The 3rd? If Diamondhead doesn't happen, there's supposedly a tournament in Vegas that has our name on it with some of the west coast Diamondhead teams + others.
Either way, we'll be fine. With up to 9 non-games overall, I'd think we can get 3-4 games against good teams, 3-4 against mid-level teams, and maybe 2-3 cupcakes. In this odd season that should be solid.
Looking forward to seeing these team play, even if it's just on TV!

It equalizes the competitive level and it hopefully keeps these stupid local teams ( not usd) off the schedule. Do we really want to pay big bucks to see st. Katherine destroyed? The argument that 20 keeps us from scheduling good teams flies in the face of hearing that we can't get any of those teams to come here because we are good.
