What point am I trying to make? 1. This disease ruins sports careers for nearly a third of the student athletes who contract it. 2. BY all measures, there are hundreds of student athletes in the B1G alone who have contracted it. 3. Therefore, this disease has already ruined the sports careers of scores of student athletes. So maybe we can chill the f*ck out for another season or two and stop acting like a bunch of spoiled f*cking infants throwing a tantrum because a bunch of strangers won't step the f*ck to it and jump into the Colosseum for our own selfish entertainment. That's my point. Clear enough? Or do you want me to sketch some sh¡t out on a cocktail napkin for you? I 100% agree with you...and would also like to see it sketched out on a cocktail napkin. I saw the published 15% figure. And the number of confirmed positives as of three weeks ago at Michigan was 35 student athletes, not 26; Idk what the number is now.

I will listen to Fauci (sp) and the other scientists rather than Trump and his band of criminals and no I don't take hydroxocloricine(?). Just look at all the outbreaks on MANY campuses all over the country. Yes, some areas have some control over it but it doesn't take much to spread it like wildfire. I have been a huge football fan for 84 yrs and will miss it just as much as anyone but is it really worth screwing up your life for? Should we listen to the Fauci who stated going on cruises early in the pandemic is reasonably safe for all age groups? Or, the Fauci who stated in March that wearing face masks is generally ineffective? Or, the Fauci who stated we should probably get used to never shaking another human beings hand again? Fauci seems like a nice enough guy....who certainly is more knowledgeable in the sciences than I....But, is he the know all end all when it comes to this pandemic? I'm not so sure!

Ok then you can listen to The Orange one who evidently is an expert in infectious disease ( as well as everything else), I will stick with Fauci.

Why do you guys only look at the issue through 2 lenses? How about you think for yourselves and actually look at what the doctors on the front lines are doing to treat people or the peer reviewed scientific articles are showing? With such a new virus I'd gladly take anecdotal treatments over academic (and as of yet unproven) advice.

With such a new virus I'd gladly take anecdotal treatments over academic (and as of yet unproven) advice. This is one of the best comments in a while that I have read. I saw someone post earlier on how many patients has Fauci treated. The big thing for me is listening and hearing from physicians who are seeing patients, treating patients and seeing which medications are effective and what patients groups. I get tired of hearing all these studies, and numbers, and subjective thoughts. Tell me what the doctors on the front lines and treating everyday are experiencing. Those are the ones that can give us the feedback we need to hear. After this holiday weekend we should see some big jumps if the sky is falling like some seem to think.

Hopefully we won't see big jumps this time (it was depressing with the increases and subsequent shutdowns after Memorial Day). If we do see the jumps again it won't be because the sky is falling. Rather that people are stupid.

There are other additional “WTFs” and flat out misses from Fauci, like saying it is fine for younger people to meet and hook via dating apps within days after saying we should consider never shaking hands again. I don’t care how nice he is, he’s been wrong more often than not, he’s given reckless, incorrect guidance at times, plus he has substantial conflicts of interests where he financially benefits greatly with ties to big pharma. I could go on but it’s laughable and foolish to state Fauci is your guide on this. You’d have better luck flipping a coin.

This isn’t anything new!!! It’s been known for decades that influenza type viruses cause myocarditis. Stop all sports until we find a cure for the flu!!! doi.org/10.1155/2012/351979

Rather that people are stupid. The average IQ is 100 by definition. That means that half of everyone has an IQ of less than 100 (think about that next time you're on the freeway). There are as many people with 90 IQs as there are with 110 IQs. Most of the folks on this forum probably deal with a lot more 110 IQ people than 90 IQ people, but they're all around. So, yes, there are a lot of stupid people around.

All I got out of that article is that a third of the athletes (no numbers, I mean it could be out of 3 infected 1 had myocarditis) and a lot of "we just don't know what to do right now". So this article doesn't prove anything other than they notice that some athletes' heart gets inflamed. How many deaths were reported in this article as a result? How many kids couldn't play anymore after they recovered from the infection? All valid questions that were never asked or addressed. Probably has more to do with my age and remembering Hank Gathers of Loyala Marymount University dying from a heart issue while collapsing on the court a second time. Then our own Dwayne Polee collapsing on the court giving us all a scare. I don't know the extent of Myocarditis but if it involves the heart and there is a chance of one young man dying on the playing field then sit them all down till this virus is past or a vaccine is upon us. These kids our to important, at least to me, to risk playing unless most, if not all, but most uncertainty about this virus is gone and they are no longer susceptible to catching it.

Man, gotta love all the strawmen and false dichotomies that get thrown around this place.
So someone is either a sheep who accepts the nonsense of the mainstream media and needs big brother to rule over them.
or
They are an idiot, racist, Maga who blindly follows their orange god.
Very indicative of what is going on in the streets and in Washington I guess though. Hotelings paradox is dead, and the best thing is to present all who disagree with you (even if its slightly) as being part of a monolith of evil and idiocy. This is the biggest problem we are facing.

Pacific Beach/ Mission Beach and Mission Bay have had 4th of July type crowds the last several weekends. Not just for a few hours, but from morning to night time bonfires, the shoreline has large groups having a good time. Haven't really heard of any mass graves getting dug for all these "stupid" people.

Exactly - Forgawdsake, there was a guy here on Aztec Mesa (on another thread) who compared the Government of the State of California to Nazis. That kind of talk is not only stupid, it's also terribly dangerous. You would think that we are better than that - but apparently not.

Went by the beaches here in Carlsbad. It was absolutely chaotic! There were people everywhere and social distancing wasn’t happening and there were no masks on anyone. It is going to be very interesting to see if there are huge spikes after the weekend. These small businesses can’t afford another shut down. Regardless of spikes or numbers we gotta keep moving forward. At this point, people know the consequences and seem to think the reward is greater than any danger or results of COVID.
