I'm just glad it's not TJ as that's been rampant of late!

Regarding last years Padres-Indians trade ------ I am super bullish on Logan Allen's future right now. Dropped 35 pounds over the winter and really, few if any franchises develop pitchers like CLE does. They have the science(s) down. -- theathletic.com/2402330/2021/02/22/cleveland-indians-spring-training-james-karinchak-curve-bryan-shaw-terry-francona/3. Allen said he weighed about 240 pounds when Spring Training 2.0 began in July. Now, he’s at 205. He said he owes “half of (his) career to” strength coach Joe Kessler, who helped him overhaul his nutrition and training. “Coming through the minor leagues, you don’t pay attention to those things as much,” Allen said. “You eat fast food all the time. I don’t have enough paper in this room to write how many times I ordered a buffalo chicken pizza in the minor leagues.” Allen visited with Francona on Saturday morning for his one-on-one meeting. He said the manager gave him “a little pat on the back for the work I’ve been putting in.” “When he (last) saw me, I was just the chunky little young guy trying to figure it out and be more consistent,” Allen said. Allen spent the entire offseason in Arizona, where he said he bought in “to the Cleveland Indians pitching factory,’ and learned how factors such as body awareness can lead to a more efficient and repeatable delivery. He said his new slider “has been pretty unbelievable,” and he was already stretched out to 65-70 pitches when camp began. Allen was widely considered a top-100 prospect before the 2019 season, including the No. 74 prospect by MLB Pipeline. That summer, he joined the Indians in the Trevor Bauer trade. The 23-year-old will compete for a rotation spot this spring. He's basically Ryan Weathers. Logan Allen has been just terrible, was already optioned to alternate site. It's a shame, he's a good kid and his story involving his special needs brother (piece in the Athletic last month) was really heartwarming. Gave up 3 homers in one inning the other day, and has 7 HR allowed in 15 innings. www.baseball-reference.com/players/a/allenlo01.shtmlQuantrill is having a nice season in CLE so far (2.250 ERA) and Franmil has an over .900 OPS and I believe is leading the team in homers.

I'm beginning to wonder if Paddack was a one-year wonder and the league just caught up to him. Hope not but he's just been so consistently mediocre or down right bad for a long time now.

Perhaps Paddack was more comfortable with Balsley as the Padres pitching coach versus Rothschild. Just grasping at straws here, but something is indeed different with Paddack in 2020/21 than there was in 2019. I'm sure Ryan will chime in here about this, as he seems to be closer to this than anyone else on this board.

Same issue as last year - Sequencing is utterly predictable and hitters won't bite at the changeup if it isn't in the strike zone. His vertical movement on his fastball needs to improve with any kind of consistency as horizontal movement allows the ball to remain in the zone longer. Also, I think he needs to get a little tougher mentally. He folds during adversity frequently.

The catcher can't help with your fastball not being down in the zone enough, framing aside. It's on Chris to make the mental and mechanical changes necessary.

He seemed to have that "you can't touch my fastball" mentality and challenged the hitters. I know I'd rather have him like that, even if he gets hit hard, rather than nibbling too much. It was fun to watch!

He was challenging hitters with the FB, and blowing it by them. Eventually, they'll adjust, so he needs to develop that curve ball. His off-speed change-up seemed to work when he threw it. But he was leaning heavily on the FB, and when he can keep it up and fast, he does pretty well.

He also threw 29 pitches in the first inning. Not gonna make it through 3 at that rate… once again, can't make it out of the paddock.

Smoltzy kind of nailed it tonight as far as Paddack progressing. He's got to develop the curve ball and learn to finesse his fastball. He won't be throwing fire forever.

Paddack gives up a HR to former Padres pitcher Eric Lauer… I hope Paddack gets some gas from the other pitchers about that one. Good grief.
At least no one was on base.

Would like to have seen Paddack continue, but it worked out.

He left with some pitches left unthrown, but it was time, and the Padres needed someone up who could hit. As it turned out unfortunately, O'Grady, the mashed potato man, fanned out and left the possible run on base.
Luckily, the HR to Lauer was the only run the Padres gave up tonight, and the BP held on for another win.

Watching Paddack give up three homer’s today against the Giants in another abbreviated outing with a big pitch count, the Pads need to figure out what’s going on with him.. Looks like his location is consistently off. That won’t help the team in the playoffs one bit. Deja Vu all over again. Substitute Cubbies for Gigantes. 6 pages of commentary about Paddack and his problems, and nothing's changed through six pages, including Paddack …
