Watching Paddack give up three homer’s today against the Giants in another abbreviated outing with a big pitch count, the Pads need to figure out what’s going on with him.. Looks like his location is consistently off. That won’t help the team in the playoffs one bit.

88 pitches in 3 2/3 innings. Not good.

Can we try Gore just once? Not eligible. Why? I'm not calling for the Padres to bring him up--just curious as to why he isn't eligible.

Theoretically he could have been promoted with an injury, but the player he replaced has to already be on the IL for a minimum of 10 days. A lot of moving parts.

Ryan, curious if you've seen this vid yet and if so are you in agreement with all of its metric analysis: Yeah, I've seen it. I don't think it's a matter of not enough pitches, but how the pitches are used in terms of tunneling, sequencing, quadrants, etc. His struggles last year were due almost entirely due to the arm slot being lowered, changing the vertical plane on his fastball to a horizontal tilt. Basically, the ball stays longer in the zone than it should.

I found Chris's comments yesterday on his fastball & the teams analytics studies to be interesting.
Dennis Lin on Twitter: "Chris Paddack said he studied more Rapsodo data and other analytics this offseason than before. He referenced the horizontal break on his fastball in 2020 --'I was getting two-seam run on my four-seam fastball', he said".
"It blew my mind, he said. " Fixing this is an offseason priority.
I hope him and the team figure it out, because Paddack has such talent.

Chris Paddack and Rapsodo is one dangerous combo.

Regarding last years Padres-Indians trade ------ I am super bullish on Logan Allen's future right now. Dropped 35 pounds over the winter and really, few if any franchises develop pitchers like CLE does. They have the science(s) down. -- theathletic.com/2402330/2021/02/22/cleveland-indians-spring-training-james-karinchak-curve-bryan-shaw-terry-francona/3. Allen said he weighed about 240 pounds when Spring Training 2.0 began in July. Now, he’s at 205. He said he owes “half of (his) career to” strength coach Joe Kessler, who helped him overhaul his nutrition and training. “Coming through the minor leagues, you don’t pay attention to those things as much,” Allen said. “You eat fast food all the time. I don’t have enough paper in this room to write how many times I ordered a buffalo chicken pizza in the minor leagues.” Allen visited with Francona on Saturday morning for his one-on-one meeting. He said the manager gave him “a little pat on the back for the work I’ve been putting in.” “When he (last) saw me, I was just the chunky little young guy trying to figure it out and be more consistent,” Allen said. Allen spent the entire offseason in Arizona, where he said he bought in “to the Cleveland Indians pitching factory,’ and learned how factors such as body awareness can lead to a more efficient and repeatable delivery. He said his new slider “has been pretty unbelievable,” and he was already stretched out to 65-70 pitches when camp began. Allen was widely considered a top-100 prospect before the 2019 season, including the No. 74 prospect by MLB Pipeline. That summer, he joined the Indians in the Trevor Bauer trade. The 23-year-old will compete for a rotation spot this spring.
