WOW, just WOW! Thanks for posting this clip. That really was great and at the same time hard to watch, a whole bunch of memories came flooding back for me, going back to 70-71 up until now. The thing I will say is it was a shame that they really never planned for the long term in any of the upgrades they did, they were just strictly cosmetic with no planning for the long term. The infrastructure of the internal workings was never really looked at (Clubhouses, press boxes, concession stands, bathrooms,....) were never improved. I had the pleasure on a few times over the years to see the inter workings of the stadium and boy was it a real eye opener. I can say even as a young kid in the early 70's I always felt like I was in concrete box (almost like prison/jail). I never liked the "Brutalist style" they used even though I now dig most minimalist, mid-century modern and just about all concrete building styles, Just not San Diego stadium. I will say that seeing the old stadium empty with all those (Spano's) blue seats just put a bad taste in my mouth. I know they are the Chargers color but it just reminds me more of Spanos then the San Diego Chargers. I know I need to move on but it's tough to teach an old dog new tricks. The stadium stayed around a few years longer then it should have with its poor site lines (distance mainly) and deferred maintenance but boy was it fun while it lasted and it will be missed, inside and out!
Basically, about the only thing the city really did to the place was add seats. IIRC, most of what are the current scoreboards were installed by the Padres--including the first videoboard.

Yeah, when it comes to SD sports history, I'm about as nostalgic as you can possibly be, and I've gathered some great memories from that stadium over the years, but I can't wait until that giant shitehole is torn asunder. Considering Covid won't let us attend games this year anyway, I'm glad our student athletes will at least get to play a few games in a modern stadium, even if it is out of town. Watching that video shows what kind of shape the city left the Q, I mean "the SDCCU" in.

COOL!!! I bought 4 of the bench seats from the hoops program when they changed the logo color from gold to white (outline). Going to need to add a couple stadium seats to the mix!

From a distance, it's still a nice looking stadium.

Oldie Out NICE, Another step to being reality, first 3D rendering for us older folks that want to see it in-person as compared to seeing it only on a computer screen. That is one cool looking Diorama, reminds me of one of the tradeshows I had to help setup. I can't even guess what that thing set them back. The one I had done back in day (mid 90's) set us back thousands of dollars and it was about the same size just not as involved, not even close. I understand now with technology, Computer modelling and 3D Rendering but still this thing is cool and would really like to get down and check it out. Can't get here soon enough! Go Aztecs and SDSU West!

I guess I got used to how small the scoreboard display was and how poor the quality until last year. All of a sudden it hit me, boy that thing SUCKS!

Well they have some sort of camera. Looks like it takes photos. Not sure if it's a new photo every 5, 10, etc...

That model makes me want to get my GI Joes out of my parents attic and see if SDSU will let me play with it. Maybe setup a Cobra showdown for San Diego.

This should be pinned at the top of the "Aztec Sports and Conference Discussions" page.
