I've always held a generally pro view of Mac Arthur. I thought he did a bang-up job leading the Pacific Fleet in WWII, and I felt his reconstruction of Japan following the war was the greatest act of reconstructing a recent enemy in modern history.
But I still hold to him being wrong for trying to invade China. Even if you hold to the Domino Theory, then simply holding ground and returning to the 38th parallel is the right option. Invading China because we disapprove of their economic policies is wrong. Moreover, even if Mao went a bit off his rocker by the end their, they werent a massive imperialist that needed to be checked.
The article citing contemporary issues with China as justification that Mac Arthur should have invaded them 70 some years ago is asinine. Its akin to saying Matthew Perry should've just bombarded Tokyo harbor and then Pearl Harbor would have never happened.
