Hey, so I drive by the stadium every day via I-15. It's hard to see the Northwest corner of the property from that vantage point. Anybody know if there is any construction activity happening? The last UT story on June 30th indicated that construction would start the first week of August.

Been wondering what the latest is on this. Have not heard a thing and the mayor was supposed to sign off on it by now. Perhaps that happened with no fanfair?

I thought the mayor had to wait 30 days after the last council meeting to sign the deal.

I thought the mayor had to wait 30 days after the last council meeting to sign the deal. You're right. But the final City Council approval was on June 30. So we're beyond the 30 day period. The last estimate I remember was that escrow would probably close at the end of this week, early next week at the latest.
But, there's been no word about the Mayor signing the final document.

The parking lot asphalt in the NW corner should be very easy to break up. Most of it is already broken up, as weeds have been growing through the numerous cracks for months.

It will be interesting to see what final elevation is for the field, then minus for footings and utilities as compared to current field. There is going to be some serious dirt moved around.

And the NW corner of the lot is the place to dig, as it is the highest part of the lot, and the only corner that didn't flood back in December of 2010 the day before the Poinsettia Bowl.

Are you sure you didn't mean years not months? Nah, it's months. The swap meet was also held out there, but hasn't been there since March. The crop of weeds have been growing quite well in the meantime. I drive by there twice a week.

And he one before and the one before and ...
They weren't really tall, but still showing through the cracks in the asphalt.

I saw a tweet (not sure how to put it up here) that Wicker said they will break ground next week and there will be a virtual groundbreaking ceremony

The last UT story on June 30th indicated that construction would start the first week of August. The best way to see what is going on is to drive by the lot on Friars Rd. which is as close as you can get to the Northwest section. Looking forward to seeing the construction getting started!
