The Big 12 is looking for a 11 team or other options for a 10-game football season, but says no to BYU who is over 1,000 miles away from Oklahoma. Heard talk that BYU wants to join a conference for 2020 season, MWC still an option. I don't think the MWC is an option for BYU. It has admittedly been a while since I've looked at this so things could have changed, but I believe that BYU negotiates a $0 game exit fee in their game contracts if the reason for pulling out of the game is due to joining a P5 conference. The MWC isn't a P5 conference. If BYU had joined the Big 12 they'd be able to cancel all future scheduled games they've agreed to play for free, but if they join the MWC they'd have to pay sizable exit fees for each and every future game they've scheduled. We're talking $10 million or more in game exit fees to join the MWC.

MW has 11 football schools, while Big XII has 10. By no means was this a long-term conference play.

As much as I dislike BYU and don't particularly want to play them now that they're out of our conference as we know they cheat, I would still welcome them back as long as they aren't given any special provisions. They're a very high quality football and basketball program which would only elevate the conference national profile.

If we could leverage them into leaving the WCC & joining the MWC as a hoops only program I'd be all for it. Zags would have to follow eventually.
I'd actually be for them being full members if we could boot Hawaii, but they'd have to make some financial concessions which I doubt they're willing to make.
The more good programs in the MWC the better it is for us.

The only way any conference should bring byu in, is that the 2 years allowed for byu players' missions is eliminated. this is a continued competitive advantage for byu. even with the elimination of the mission time off, NO way are the byu'ers welcome back in the MWC. MWC teams shouldn't even schedule games with them. especially SDSU. so it's a couple of extra dollars, is it really worth it?

Utah St has several guys who serve 2-year missions, including their best basketball player last year. Should they be booted?

MW Wire thinks the MWC should add BYU FB this year.

MW Wire thinks the MWC should add BYU FB this year. The more extreme idea comes with BYU coming in as a one-year member of the league and join the Mountain Division. This would create a 13-team league but it can totally work with a nine-game schedule. This would not change schedules all that much since the conference normally plays eight games with six divisions and two cross-division games. This would not impact the current schedules. Having BYU join the Mountain Division, those teams would play its same schedule plus add the Cougars to get to nine. The West Division would either add BYU and one more Mountain Division to get to nine overall.

I guess we should let them in to reward them for their past loyalty and sportsmanship.

I believe that the contingency from byu to join any conference will be that the boss of the play review team for ALL of their games will be Chad Bunn.

Agree! Why in the world would we help them? Not too long ago they were far too good for this conference and turned their nose up at it. Now, we want to help them. I say f them and let them feel the pain. I just don’t get why the MWC would do anything to make it better for them. They are leaving the first minute they can and one season is flat out ridiculous.

If BYU gets a sweetheart deal from the MWC (a la Boise St) in order for us to help them out, the conference administration needs to be taken to the woods and flogged. #NoHair
