16 teams in the playoffs, the Pads might actually have a shot.
I’m sure they did the numbers and came to the conclusion that the extra teams will help mitigate the financial shortfall of no fans.

6 with top 2 teams getting a bye ( top 2 in each division) 7 with the top team getting a bye (top 2 and best #3) 8 with no byes (top 2 and 2 best #3s)
Instead of best records due to totally unbalanced schedule)

Ryan,
Is the expanded playoffs for this season only? I recall the MLB and MLBPA were discussing adding more playoff teams even before COVID hit.
Expanded in the future, but just not to the same degree?
___ "Now that baseball has expanded its postseason to 16 teams this year — an NBA-style format that includes more than half the league — is just reaching the postseason enough? The Indians don’t have to beat out the Twins to guarantee a playoff berth this year; they just need to be better than the White Sox. Every first- and second-place team is guaranteed to get in." - The Athletic
