I’d have interest. He’s very long and a shot blocking monster, even with his other weaknesses would be of great value to our defense.

Y'all remeber this article from the Athletic June 5th, 2017, "C Bryan Penn-Johnson to visit SDSU." “San Diego State is in a good spot with Bryan,” said Williams. “They traditionally do very well defensively and he would be a great fit. He could thrive in the Mountain West and be a dominant big man that can control the middle, block shocks and run the floor and finish in their system. “They’ve seen him and know he’s long and athletic. That’s their evaluation. San Diego State and everyone else loves his versatility and length. And as he gets bigger and stronger and his skill level improves, I think he can be player who shakes the NBA Commissioner's hand one day.” Clayton Williams is founder and head coach of Penn-Johnson’s AAU club DreamVision. sports.yahoo.com/athletic-2018-c-bryan-penn-013438006.html

This is a kid who makes sense for the Aztecs as, given he'd have to RS again this season, he'd come in as RS JR in '22 getting PT with Nate, and then taking over as a senior. Not needing to play this year makes him more of a possibility than Anei.
7'5 wingspan, and very talented. The only reason he didn't play this season was he was sitting behind a NBA 1st round pick who played a TON of minutes. He would have played a lot as a FR if not for the injury, which is why he RS'd.
That said, he may not want to RS, so I could easily see him playing this year at a JC & then being recruited as a 2 for 2 player unless he's able to secure a transfer waiver. And if he's able to secure a waiver I doubt he comes here, given we already have 2 bigs. Less of a good fit.

He will be a redshirt Sophomore in the fall of 2021 as his first redshirt was medical...
Aztec have already contacted him...

Extremely small sample size, but his block #'s are very impressive. 6.5 blocks/40 minutes and 9.4/100 possessions.
For comparison (again much different sample sizes), Skylar had career #'s of 3.9/40 and 6.1/100.
Along with the blocks, looks like he's had trouble with not fouling -- I think he'd do well in the Aztec system and a redshirt year would be beneficial. Would be a good pickup IMO.

if you have depth, fouling is not an issue

Sorry to hop in late to the thread, but when is baseball coming back? Could have him throw out first pitch at a Padres game. I like that idea. If it is not against NCAA rules, I wonder if Wicker can cut a deal with the Padres, allowing any Aztec that won a conference player of the week honors to toss out a first pitch at a Padres game.
