From today's SD Union-Tribune:
The Aztecs are known to be a finalist for TyTy Washington, a 6-3 guard from Compass Prep in Phoenix who is rated a four-star prospect by some recruiting services. Washington listed SDSU among 10 finalists over the summer and more recently indicated that it’s down to the Aztecs, Illinois and Creighton. He is expected to announce a decision Sunday.

Decision coming on Saturday. Sources predict Illini, but Aztecs are still in his top consideration set. Impact player wherever he goes.

Last year the Illini beat the Aztecs out for Coleman Hawkins. They're good. Top 20 team that's trending up under a very good coach in 1 of the top 2 conferences in the country, has 1 of the top 5 players in the country and another who's top 25-30. Their assistant, Chin Coleman, is the same guy who recruited Hawkins & is the lead recruiter for Washington, so it fits. They may not be set up for success like an Indiana, Michigan St, Ohio St & Michigan, but they're not far behind. I think the pull of the conference, a top 2 conference, and the talent surrounding Chicago makes that place a potential gem.

Must be the coach, now in his fourth year. I agree with you about Illinois. I've never understood why it isn't a powerhouse in all sports. 52,000 students, not hard to get into, and it's located in a fantastic college town. Illinois has to be one of the most under-achieving sports programs in the nation. Still, as an Arizona kid it seems TyTy should choose San Diego over the frozen tundra.

Football, sure. These guys spend 90% of their time indoors. This kid is supposedly into being on a big stage, which fits with Illinois. If he was going to stay in the SW I'd have expected him at UA or ASU, but a lot of kids love to get away from home. I get what you're saying about SDSU, weather, etc., but it is what it is. We have a heck of a trio of young guards already, so if he goes elsewhere I'm not worried. There will be several like him available within the transfer portal. Underwood is a terrific coach. Killed it at SFA, and then took a bad team under Ford at OSU & turned them into a tourney team in 1 year before jumping to Illinois. Will be curious to see if he can elevate them to the MSU/UM/Indy tier or not?

In Fisher's first visit to March Madness with the Aztecs, our boys were thumped by 31 points by a veteran Illinois team, for those that remember.
Couldn't play with a big, strong, tough Big Ten team!

I remember it seemed like men against boys (except for Randy Holcomb). Thanks to Coach Fish and Dutch we have come a long way since then.

Illinois is a P6 school - in the BIG
we have also lost guys to Washington State and Oregon State - in other years as they are also in a P6 conference
Many guys still prefer the P6 Conferences even if they go to a school is not in the upper level of their conference

I’m not on Twitter but I clicked on the link to his Twitter account via 247 and noticed he gained a large amount of followers, wonder who they might be. Looks like Creighton and Illinois appear to be the top two candidates. We will know soon.
