I can already see the false dichotomies and straw men being lined up for this argument.

It is troubling to think that reasonably intelligent people think it would be okay to stop this kid, or anyone, from attending SDSU. If he attends and breaks rules, the school can take appropriate action. But to prevent him from enrolling? No.
Need I remind everyone this would make it easy for anyone to gin up a campaign against anyone they don't like? Maybe everyone should look up when McCarthyism was going strong in the 1950s. This attitude is clearly McCarthyism in reverse.

People are willing to castigate and shame people publicly to eliminate racism from our society. Is there a danger that someone might fabricate a story against someone that they didn't like? Of course. But how is that any different then a Karen calling the cops on a Black person for looking suspicious, or a Black person being arrested or charged with a crime that they didn't commit because they 'fit the description' of being a black man in America? Black people have been dealing with "McCarthyism" since they gained their freedom after the Civil War. Any un-liked Black person was/is in danger of similar treatment due to the color of their skin. Bob Dylan talks about just that in the song Hurricane: www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpZvg_FjL3Q

Black people have been dealing with "McCarthyism" since they gained their freedom after the Civil War. Any un-liked Black person was/is in danger of similar treatment due to the color of their skin. Bob Dylan talks about just that in the song Hurricane: www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpZvg_FjL3QLet's unpack your claims a little. Virtually every institution in America now has hiring quotas or criteria that give preferential treatment to minorities. These same institutions have also created an entire job market around "diversity" and have baked-in diversity policies into their charters. There are tens of thousands of non-profits and institutions designed to provide aid and assistance specifically to minorities. If you are any minority that's not some form of Asian, you categorically have a significantly better chance of admission to your university of choice purely because of your ethnicity/skin color. Popular media roundly denounces anything that could remotely be perceived as racist. Comedians with the wrong skin color are having their careers destroyed if they make one unapproved joke. The charge of racism itself is enough to shame most people into silence and enough for anyone to be instantly fired from their job. The very premise that a student could be barred from admittance to college because some people feel they are "racist" is evidence that our society writ large is at the very least incredibly sensitive to the issue. I could go on. The point is that a society cannot be "systemically racist" if nearly every institution and individual in that society is striving not to be racist. No matter what you're professor may say about "hidden bias." Because we live in reality where actions and laws matter more. All of that said, I admit that you will never totally eliminate racism from society even if you were to implement tyrannical thought control policies. It would be like trying to eliminate hate. What we can do is try to be decent human beings that respect individuality, freedom, equality of opportunity, and treating others with respect regardless of their skin color. And if we do that, racism will become functionally irrelevant, just as it is today, where racists and racism is roundly denounced and holds no power in any facet of our society. I would submit that the only reason it is still a topic of discussion is because it is a useful political talking point. Secondly, it seems like you are justifying any action infringing on someone's liberty, however unjust, as long as it advances a political cause you believe in. In this case, a political cause that doesn't really exist. You don't see the moral contradiction?

I would tend to agree that you don't refuse to admit a student who qualifies based on possible racist tendencies.
However, you put them on a short leash, and let them know that there are certain rules and guidelines that must be adhered to, and if that student engages in unacceptable behavior you give them a quick hook based on both current behavior and past documented patterns of behavior.

'Woke' is a mental illness. These folks need our care, our pity, our compassion. But, well, other than that? In the real world, probably best to just cross to the other side of the street, like you do when you see some poor soul ranting at imaginary demons on the sidewalk. So sad. Many of the Woke are just too far gone to help.

It's hard to forget the injustice done to Rubin Hurricane Carter. SMH. Word. Now THAT was systemic racism. I learned of Rubin's story from Bob Dylan's Hurricane.

Well, for those of use who believe in liberty and the freedom of speech, you have to question who you give power to hold that "short leash." I have no issues with those whose speech I find offensive, I am just find debating against them. I do take issue when opposing views are muted or silenced, which is prevalent today. Just see what the left is doing to Elon and Twitter. Many in American today have no issues with free speech being limited to that which what they agree with. Really? Then you have platforms like META and GOOGLE who actively censor views they don't agree with. Funny, those who call us on the right "fascists" fail to see that they are the actual fascists. But, name calling is all the left has for them anymore. The issues are against them and they are losing support in both the black and hispanic communities.

There have ALWAYS been limits on free speech. You can't go into a crowded building with limited exits, knowing how a rush could get people killed, and yell, "FIRE!" You're criminally liable for that. Freedom of speech is not an absolute right, nor should it be. Espousing beliefs that are hateful and encouraging others to be hateful and hurt other people is wrong, morally, ethically, and legally.

But, name calling is all the left has for them anymore. The issues are against them and they are losing support in both the black and hispanic communities. What Elon is doing to Twitter is running it into the ground. He's not being censored, the "left" is not doing anything to him. He's not some poor helpless victim in this scenario. He's an idiot who allows the free flow of racial division on his platform now to spread like wildfire, reinstating Kanye West and other previously banned accounts. It's not about what you agree with - There is no space for hate speech, the spewing of Holocaust denial diatribes, antisemitic views and the ostracizing of entire societal groups. I know you think "fascism" is the new "woke" and you think the "left" is the new "fascist"....but fascism is a far-right movement. Always has been. One of the key components is ultranationalist views, which the "right" has in spades. It's why there's a massive Christofascist movement right now targeting LGBTQ rights and protections. Three dozen Republicans yesterday voted to deny same-sex marriage rights, for example. And they told America they were going to do it when they assumed power. Voting rights are next up on their hit list. Understand that "free speech" - An extremely goofy and simplistic perspective that Republicans love to promote...ends when hate speech incites violence against a group of people. While I'm glad you have the tolerance to debate whether millions of Jews were gassed to death in Treblinka or Belzec or not, many of us do not. You're not being censored in that regard, you're just being an asshole, generally speaking.
