So does Pulliam move in to a starting role alongside the new transfer Gomez? I would assume so, unless Seiko or one of the freshmen step up. Lamont Butler is this generations DJ Gay. He is going to start.I have been tooting his horn for awhile now. I just think no matter how good he is as a HS senior (and he was VERY good!), that PG is probably the toughest position for a Freshman to come in and start, at least right away. You didn't stipulate a time frame for him starting, but I can agree that at some point in the season he could start, and depending on performance... As for Malachi, damn good for him, and I think in the bigger picture it is good for us. He leaves a hole, but it was pretty much a foregone conclusion for some time. I think that much like with Yanni, other players who are looking for a destination that they can become pros in, SDSU is a damn good option!

He is going to start. I'd think Pulliam would be more likely to start early on, while Butler adjusts to the speed of the college game. But with either Pulliam or Butler starting alongside Gomez, it will probably be more of a traditional PG/SG pairing, rather than basically a combo guard duo that we had this year. Both plusses and minuses to that - chemistry is the key, as always.

What happens if he is drafted and doesn’t sign or doesn’t hire an agent? Can he come back if he doesn’t like the position or offer? I don’t follow the NBA rules that much If he's drafted he can't come back.

Best guard I’ve seen on the Mesa by far.

It's possible for him to return if he's not drafted, but there are a number of rules that affect whether he would qualify or not. I think one of them is he had to have been invited to the Combine, which may not happen this year. There are also limits regarding the use of an agent as well.

"After receiving feedback from NBA teams and after thoughtful conversations with my family and Coach [Brian] Dutcher, I have decided to forgo my senior season and have declared for the NBA draft," Flynn said.
He is not coming back even if he isn't drafted.

I've been thinking this was the case since the Aztecs got Gomez. That didn't make sense unless the staff had gotten a sense from Mal that he was going pro. The fact that they had still been pursuing the transfer market for bigs was a big hint that they knew this was coming.

Not surprising. I think most people figured he would do this. Correct, and I don't think that it sucks for us next season for sure. You never know who might work hard in the off season and improve greatly to take over. Or, you never know who Dutcher might get as a transfer who could help us. Anything is possible.

Nothing but gratitude and fond memories for Malachi and his brief but memorable time on the Mesa. Here’s hoping he has a long and distinguished pro career.

Some tweet that I saw earlier today quoted Dutch as saying something along the lines of..."We will sometimes get a handful of NBA teams asking about a player, but we had over 20 ask about Malachi". I doubt, based on that, that he will be overlooked.

I doubt, based on that, that he will be overlooked. And 20 NBA teams is about 2/3rds of the NBA interested in Malachi. So, you know he has made a very favorable impression when that many check in. He may not go until late first round or maybe second, but there is probably some team out there that can use him for sure!

Flynn will get drafted and be the next Steve Nash. Hope he makes lots of money and fame and keeps the Aztecs in the news for many years like Kawhi. Thanks for the great season Malachi, good luck I doubt he'll ever be league MVP like Nash, but I think he could do fairly well in the NBA.

Good for Malachi. Nothing really left to prove and draft stock is as high as it will be. In just about every mock draft I've seen the top 40 is mainly 18 and 19 year olds with high potential. Everyone is looking
for the next Kobe Bryant. I think Flynn's career arc will be similar to Fred VanVleet with Toronto. Fred didn't get drafted and I think Mal will but averaged 17.6 this season so far with 39% from three. They've
got similar size. I think the Nash comparison would be a reach but you never know. Hope he plays 10+ years in the association and sets his family up for generations. Can't wait to root for him in the NBA!

Not sure that one year makes anyone an Aztec for Life - despite the level of play in that year. I feel like it's a title that should be reserved for those Aztecs who gut it out for 4-5 years and earn it.
All the same, it was great for him to be able to contribute at such an unreal level to this year's once-in-a-lifetime season. And that's how I'll remember him. Yanni, too.
Flame away…
