Injured for the AAU season, playing at AZ Compass HS. Interesting to see what happens for his recruitment.

Would love too see this big guy at the Mesa. He definitely knows about state with his relationship with Lamonte. When was the last time we had a 6’9” 265lb center in MBB (Shelton?) and would not be surprised if he gets to 6’ 10”. It would be nice to finally have a big body with shooting ability at the post or even at PF. I would circle my calendar against BYU who seems to always get these 6’ 10” players or bigger for a go bang on them type of game. Would also be interesting to play a Big East team with this kid. Sounds like he is making the right decision with his injury to heal it correctly.

Max Lee combined with Elijah Saunders down low would make the Aztecs a VERY TOUGH OUT. Put KJ up front with those two guys and it would probably be the Aztecs strongest frontcourt team since 2011 featured Kawhi, Malcom and Billy White. I want to see that sort of a team again in Viejas.
Add Koren Johnson, Byrd and the other guys already in place for the next few years and there will be a lot of P5 teams dodging/ducking playing the Aztecs for those years. It's gonna be a nightmare for opponents to play on the Steve Fisher Court.
Coaches: Just round 'em up and roll!

I am a big Max Lee fan and hope the Aztecs do not forget about him now that they have Saunders.

Think Elijah would like to continue to play the 4 while Max is a 5 - so both are needed

Seven to eight hundred pounds of agile muscle surrounding the paint will be a serious obstacle for all opponents. Advantage Aztecs.
Scoring, rebounding, defending, and assisting the other players they are gonna be a very hard team to beat.
Brings to mind Lute Olson's comments after the Kawhi led team gave his AZ team a beatdown here in SD. His after game comments describing the Aztecs were: They were bigger, stronger, faster, tougher, meaner, smarter....

Trade off of big (wide) bodies is that we’re probably limited in the shot blocking dept, as well as bigs being able to switch onto smaller players within our system. Yanni was a great fit due to his athleticism and mobility, not a lot of big men can do that. So I like to be able to hang with big front courts, but I like really our versatility with athletic bigs we’ve had in the past.

A player that comes to mind is CSU Roddy. Big body that is a handful. Dude is agile but a big body. With Max I do not get the impression the kid a stiff but more towards a Roddy type of big man. Why does it seem that we are always in the need for a 5 or a large presence down low. I am okay having a big guy here for four years instead of trying to cherry picking one every year. Some years it works other times it doesn’t as well.

I think Roddy is a good analogy for Max Lee. If opposing players can't get around him, it's tougher to get a good shot attempt, which may be about as good as a block.
Saunders is also able to defend more than one position.
Neither of these guys are plodders.

If we could get Johnson, Lee and Bunch that would be an incredible in coming freshmen team that could go up against the varsity guys and the Freshman guys could give the varsity team all they could handle.

I don't think we'll be needing/wanting Lee now that we have Byrd.

Signed with San Jose State today, Spartans have a good 2022 class under Tim Miles.

Just what I was afraid of we are going to be playing against this kid for the next four years. He is going to be a load to handle. Happy for the kid and for San Jose Tim Miles.
