If somehow we do have a baseball season, will it be shortened? I can't imagine playing games outside in December or January in certain parts of the country. Would MLB move playoff and World Series games to a neutral sites that have decent weather or domes? Just a thought while self isolating. 😬 And as someone posted early on about watching birds, I have been doing that. Hope the Blue Jay's kick the Eastern Starlings butts.

It absolutely will be shortened. But if there is one, I look forward to lots of double-headers, since that is one way MLB has proposed getting more games in during a shortened season.

The logistics of this season are going to be extremely difficult with the rolling peaks not aligning in all regions simultaneously. The geography is not in our favor, so to speak. Neutral site games are going to have to be evaluated strongly.

It just continues to be extremely complicated to get back to normalcy with just about everything including sports.

Housing all the players in one location is also going to be problematic. Asking players to separate from their families for months?

There are rumors/reports that part of the season will be played in Arizona at Spring Training sites. I’m not sure if that is going to happen however, MLB is certainly not keen on the idea of canceling the entire season. Megabucks are at stake....and I’m sure many players want these absurdly large contracts to be paid.

One commentator stated “the first sport back wins”.
I agree. The first sport back, even if it is to just a TV only audience will get half of the country’s sports fans watching them.

According to someone I trust, there is unlikely to be any minor league games played this year. To say that's devastating is an understatement.

MLB has already stated they wanted to get rid of up to 42 affiliated minor league clubs. If they don't play this season, at least some of those 42 clubs will go belly-up, and I don't think that MLB could care less.

If there is no/limited minor leagues this season I think expanded rosters might be a good idea. Open up 6 -10 extra roster spots for the players who project as future major leaguers. It would definitely add some extra interest if Gore, Campusano, Abrams, Trammell, Patino, Morejon and Baez got major league experience this year. There could be a lot of doubleheaders on the schedule this season and expanded rosters could help with the wear and tear of this kind of compacted schedule.

No minor league games has been basically confirmed, which puts next season in jeopardy as well. Very disheartening.

Just reading the tea leaves and talking to a few of my writing colleagues. It doesn't take much to put two and two together on the subject. MLB will get handled first (which is nowhere close to a resolution) and then they will handle the minor league side. MiLB is so dependent on gate revenue, there is basically zero capacity to operate without fans. Since most franchises are independently owned and not subsidized by their parent clubs, real trouble is looming there.

Absolutely there is trouble, but affiliated minor league teams are subsidized to some extent by MLB clubs paying the salaries of players and coaches. But yes, they absolutely need gate receipts to survive. I wouldn't be surprised to see some minor league teams not on the contraction list fold if there is no season this year.

Would expect it to happen. Paying player salaries and coaching salaries isn't anywhere near the same as ballpark expenses and other expenditures. Just hoping for the best, but baseball is controlled by thrifty owners that have zero desire to grow the game and every desire to line their pockets.
