This was the first time I could picture Flynn having NBA success. He was playing like a NBA point guard.

I've been watching the Aztecs since 1976, and Flynn is the best point guard I have ever seen play for us. Agree! He can score from deep, he can drive to the basket, and he is a good passer. On top of that he gives great effort on defense and has been very good for us there. He has just a very complete game. Would love for him to stay one more year because I think we are real spoiled right now.

Brian Dutcher is national Coach of The Year. In his 3rd year as head coach he took us from not making the NCAA Tournament to the regular season National Champions with the best record in the country. How could they not name him Coach of the Year?

If he and MM are both back next season and we can get a Yanni-ish replacement we will stacked next season- we’d probably be afforded the same respect USU was given in the pre-season mid-teens. Putting my selfishness aside, I want Malachi to go be a star in the NBA. The guy is a leader, has a complete game, and is tough as nails. Just a flat out balling winner who had led this team to great heights. I knew he’d be really good for us, but he is a great, great player for us.

What a comeback last night and against a team who had won 20 straight conference games at home.
Nevada was unconscious in the 1st Half, but once again the team made the adjustments and completely clamped on them in the second half/
Must keep getting the ball inside to Yanni and playing inside-out, at times the team gets a bit 3 point happy and that isn't our best offense.
Flynn was amazing, his overall floor game, tough defense and calm demeanor are really fun to watch.
Go Aztecs!

I've been watching the Aztecs play basketball since 1963, longer than all but a few members here. I've seen more Aztec basketball games than all but a small number of posters here as well. I agree fully with you, I haven't seen a better Aztec point guard in all those 57 years. Like me then, you must remember Al Skalecky. Damn, you must be old!
Loved Al. I rank him just behind Cage as the best Aztec center I've seen. He still holds all time rebounding records. For the kids reading this, Al played in '66, '67 and '68. That's a long time to hold a record.
Rebounds in a season, 1st and 3rd. Average rebounds per game for a season, 1st and 2nd. Total career rebounds, 2nd. (Cage is first over 4 seasons, Al is 2nd with only 3 seasons.) Average rebounds per season, 1st.
No doubt a great player. He's one of the greats who's pictures are posted in Viejas at various entrance doors. Al's picture is at the door above Section F.

As good as Flynn has played for us, I didn't buy in to his being NBA ready earlier in the season. Now I think the only thing that keeps him from being drafted is if the decides he's enjoying the college experience enough to wait another year.
As far as finding a Yanni-ish player, that's going to be extremely difficult, but made easier due to our success this year. I pointed out my long history with the Aztecs earlier. In my opinion Yanni does more things than any big I've ever seen in an Aztec uniform. We've had guys who may have been better in one phase of the game, but not so highly skilled in so many phases. He may be the most difficult player to replace.

Wasn't Cage the power forward and Leonard Allen the center?

I think Malachi will find success in the NBA but I wouldn't pass such judgment on his performance vs Nevada, which is a great offensive team but weak on defense. His play through the season as a whole, plus his tournament effort, is what has, and will, tell the story.

Wasn't Cage the power forward and Leonard Allen the center? Yep, I think you're right for most of the Cage/Allen years. I was thinking that Allen came in after Cage. I just checked and Allen was here during Cage's last 3 years. So Allen would have been the center. Old age does terrible things to the memory. Thanks for the correction.
I've modify my comment to "I rank him just behind Cage as the Best Aztec "big" I've seen.

It's been building game after game seeing all the facets of Flynn's game. If we need scoring, he scores. If we need defense, he defends. If we need someone to run plays and distribute the ball, he does. A great point guard.

Malachi Flynn showed that he can have a Kemba/Shabazz type run in the tourney. Will be very exciting. Can’t say enough how lucky we as fans have been this season. This team really has shown a lot and has brought a lot of the city together as we continue to cheer them on.

I hope that at least Thursday's game is easy enough that all the starters, especially Flynn don't have to play more than 20 minutes each. 3 games in 3 days are always tough.

I didn't see anyone mention the job Seiko did on Harris. He was frustrated to the max as Seiko took him out of his game.

I didn't see anyone mention the job Seiko did on Harris. He was frustrated to the max as Seiko took him out of his game. Completely agree, especially considering that he just got over being sick. Wish he was as aggressive on offense as he was on defense, although he would probably burn himself out. But he at least needs to shoot more often just to keep the person guarding him honest.
