How did he do for the evening? If Dutcher went to his game, probably has an offer coming. Hope the kid had a good game. Must be good times when a #4 rank coach comes out to see you especially after Dave V was at one of your games. 23 points I believe

It’s a little bit quiet surrounding Wayne McKinney of Coronado. Good numbers for the year.
2021 6'0” PG Wayne McKinney iii (Coronado) First Team All-CIF City League Player of the Year First Team City League PPG 28.4 REB 7.7 AST 3.6 STL 2.7
His height is closer to 5’ 10”
Looking at some of the footage, kid has good body/shoulders, is good in the lane. Quick feet. Stops on a dime with good lift. Defenders were breaking their ankles with his moves. When I was looking at footage he reminds me of a Jazz Johnson type player with a better offensive shooting skills. Would be good timing with Pullman graduating. I hope the coach’s continue to Show interest.

He was from Oregon. Not sure when he came down to SD. He transferred from Oregon last year. He was on the #1 ranked 6A team in Oregon. His family vacationed in Coronado for the last 5 years and the whole family wanted to move, If he had been born and raised here, I would think it less likely for him to stay since so many kids want to get away in college from where they grew up. But since he's only been here a year, I think we'd have a chance. Although I'd love to get a nice 6'3"- 6'4" guard once of these years. Maybe he'll shoot up a few inches this next year. www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sports/high-school-preps/story/2020-01-27/coronado-tourist-now-an-islanders-teammate

I hope McKinney is still on our radar for 2021 and probably a B or C option. We are going to have to replace two point guards to graduation in 2021 and having good point guards in the future will be imperative. I expect Butler to be the starter although he will need a back-up. I hope the kid plays in the Swiss summer league to see how he plays against older experienced players and get a feel for his defensive game. I get the feeling in that if we offer, he commits shortly afterwards. We should always have good point guards.

Don't want to say anything negative about the young man but The UT article claimed he doesn't have much of an outside shot. Maybe he isn't a good fit for our offense ? Wish him the best at USD ( except when we play them of course)

Former top 150 player, Freshman at USD 6.7 PPG, 2.7 RPG, 1.7 APG, 43% FG, 36% 3FG, 67% FT . He led the Toreros in assists and steals as a freshman, thrived on the defensive end, earning All-WCC Freshman Team honors.

67% FT? he'd fit right in Unfortunately yes. McKinney is an above average defender, plays with a chip on his shoulder, potential double-digit scorer. Work his way into a top 150 HS player. Listed at 6'0 190, I think he is closer to 5'10 or 5'11. Lamont Butler type of player.

McKinney plays BIG, and comes up even BIGGER in important games. He's got the "Fire Inside!"
