Vista came off a bye flat. Out of sync, not playing the way they did in the previous 5 games (4 blowout wins and a narrow 1 point overtime loss on a missed extra point to La Costa Canyon). Poway, on the other hand, came in firing on all cylinders.
It was a one sided first half, ending 35-13. Vista was in BIG trouble.
Then after scoring a TD they gave up a TD on the ensuing kickoff, making the Poway lead 42-19 with only 19 minutes left in the game.
Vista was toast, right?
Wrong.
They came back to score 4 unanswered touchdowns, with the final (game winning) TD coming with 3 seconds left in the game.
Final Score, Vista 46, Poway 42.
It was an amazing game, and Vista never gave up. The Vista coaching staff made some fantastic adjustments at halftime, and got the team fired up. This is the best Vista team since their last CIF Championship winning team in 2010.
Vista has 3 legitimate starting running backs, with fullback David Flores being maybe the most impressive. He's a fullback with good speed. He's hit on multiple 30+ yard TD runs this year. They've also got a couple great speed backs in Desmond Taua and Brian Kelly. It's the Three Headed Monster on offense. I call it the Ghidorah formation when they're all on the field at the same time (which rarely happens as Taua and Kelly have been rotating in and out of the game much of the time, bringing in the plays).
Just when some people had written Vista off as a victim of changes in demographics, they come back strong this year (after a good 7-5 year last year). They are a hell of a lot of fun to watch! And they've even got a decent passing game, too!
