I watched a few games of Wetzell in action on YouTube. He is not a high scorer, or great rebounder generally, but he does move pretty well around the basket, and does look fairly coordinated and smooth. He might get key rebounds and blocks at times when we need it which may help us win games. He seems to fit well with the players he is operating with on the court. So, who knows how well he can turn out to be with the Aztecs?

Certainly takes some pressure off N Mensah having another quality big...

Wonder what this means developmentally for Joel Mensah. Perhaps Joel can play the 4. Anyway, Wetzell is just here for one season.

7'3" Connor Vanover CAL transfer visiting Vandy. Findlay Prep colleague with Nathan Mensah. The only constant in NCAA BB is change and the Irony of it. I know this is a Yanni thread and not a Vandy thread. But Jerry Stackhouse is kicking ass and taking names, signed 5-star wing DJ harvey out of Notre Dame, plus the NBA stars kids Kenyon Martin Jr. and Scottie Pippen Jr. - OK, back to Yanni.

Yeah, just saw footage of him and can see him playing the 4 for us next year.

Replacing Jalen with Yanni. Everything will be fine. It will be intersting. Not sure the talent is equal across the borad on our losses *Jalen > Yanni *Devin > Flynn *Germ > Feagin

Not sure the talent is equal across the borad on our losses *Jalen > Yanni *Devin > Flynn *Germ > Feagin Are these supposed to be greater than/less than symbols or arrows? I think Flynn will be an upgrade over Devin. Yanni will not be an upgrade over Jalen. Feagin...don't know. I think he'll be better offensively, but worse defensively and the team will miss Jeremy's leadership.

I had the same thought/question, then realized that I think they are supposed to be arrows (ie, --> ) indicating we are moving from Jalen to Yanni at one position, Devin to Flynn, etc.

Yanni fills a need, but he's not going to put up 16/10 game averages. I'd like him to prove me wrong. But, if we can get 10-12 pts and 6 rebounds, I think that will work. Flynn will be amazing offensively. Faegin, maybe not amazing offensively, but should be better than Germ. But, I doubt he can defend like Germ. Keshad Johnson is an intriguing freshman. I think he may have more upside than any of the freshmen who saw action this year. Plus, he's got a body that he will grow into. Jalen, for instance, you could just see that the guy was going to struggle to gain muscle and weight. Johnson has a frame that can handle more of both. My biggest wish/hope for an improvement into next year is a slimmed down Matt Mitchell. I think if that guy can shed 10-15 lbs and turn it into muscle, he'll be a monster.

I agree with most of your assertions. I too think that Johnson has the athleticism and frame that could allow him to develop into a heck of a player. Faegin will be considerably better on offense. We are going to need our junior wings to step up this year. With Wetzell, I’ll believe it when I see it. I think he’s more likely to provide 6-7 points and 4 or 5 boards a game.

Wetzell last year at Vandy: 18 minutes, 6 points per game, 3.8 rebounds. Shot 50% from the floor and 26% from three. Green's stats at LSU the year before he transferred: 18 minutes, 6.3 points per game, 5.1 rebounds a game. Shot 45% from the floor, 26% from three. Garrett Green as an Aztec: 18 minutes, 6.3 points, 5.1 rebounds. Shot 58% from the floor, and 25% from three.
