Vista just stomped Morse tonight 42-20 (and it could have easily been 49-14 if not for some untimely penalties and a turnover for a Morse TD by Vista).
The biggest difference this year from the last couple of years for Vista has been the line play, both offensive and defensive. Vista's offensive line is pushing the opposing team's defense around, while the Vista D Line is stuffing the run most of the time.
Add to that not one, not two, not three, but FOUR legitimate starting running backs (Desmond Taua, Tyler Stacier, David Flores, and Brian Kelley) and you've got a potent offense. They've also got a third year starting QB who can run fairly well and is fairly accurate with his arm. He's not great at either, but good enough at both to be a threat both in the air and on the ground.
But 42-20 over Morse. That wouldn't have happened any time in the last 6 years. Vista may not be Open Division Title contenders, but they're now a legitimate playoff team and could have a nice post-season run.
This has been a long time coming. Vista has gone through their longest losing stretch since Dick Haines took over in 1970. We're talking well over a half century since they had a stretch as bad as they had over the last 6 years. They have been overdue to have a really good team, but that team is finally here.
I'm predicting 7-3 in the regular season.

A few years ago your freshman Vista team scrimmaged my sons freshman high school team. You could tell that group (current Juniors) were going to be good if they stayed together. Are a lot of your starters Juniors?
