Lol me too... For better or worse I really don't think we'll have to worry about this one. True... he will likely get at least a six figure deal straight out of high school... but I have been told that if he does go to college the Aztecs are a threat to get him.

Here’s how I feel about this situation. When you live in San Diego and leave San Diego you will miss San Diego. No different here. This kid was Forced to leave San Diego due to COVID restrictions. If he goes to college I expect SDSU to be in his top 5 and have a real shot to land him. They have built a sincere relationship with this kid and Dutcher is about trust and family. Big selling point. If he wants to come here you bring him in Because he will have other top players consider us as an option. Lots of upside as long as he plays great defense. 🙂

Sounds like Williams is still the same player he's been (from Theathletic): "In the three games I saw Williams, he struggled with decision-making and playing within a team construct, but he also had some flashy moments, including stepback 3s and running floaters." Has fallen some in recruiting circles, but still a top end recruit.
Still a lot of questions as to whether he'll ever attend college, but the NIL may have increased his odds some.

Wow! This is already getting so out of hand. Good for him though as I would have loved to make any money at that age let along millions. Don't hate the player, hate the game!

He may not, but I think this only improves his odds of playing college ball, and he's said he loves SD. Now, whatever he decides to do, will be a basketball decision rather than driven by money. He won't look at the G-League or its rivals as a necessity, or even a financial temptation. He can go the path that makes him most happy from a basketball perspective.

How is this out of hands, at all? Companies want to sponsor someone with 5 million followers and expected to have more, why is this not a great thing for all involved? Hate the game? Why

How is this out of hands, at all? Companies want to sponsor someone with 5 million followers and expected to have more, why is this not a great thing for all involved? Hate the game? Why The way I see it - you are giving a high school kid millions of dollars. For what? Because he can have a social media influence? Giving Texas A&M football players $10k for interviews? Those Fresno State girl basketball players all that money for their social media? IMO we are going to lose college sports for what we have all grown to love and appreciate. There is going to be more separation from haves and have nots. Don’t get me wrong, I would want to make money as well but this is going to get nuts. I don’t have the answer but I am not sure this is the best. We are going to lose the amateur and purity of the sports and have potential millionaires balling at our school. What is next? Kids not wanting to play or listen to their coaches because they are already rich. Not saying it will get to that but this could go in so many directions. I could go on and on.

Unbelievably there have been HS kids around the country making 6 figures+ as social media influencers for years. And they weren't athletes. Now athletes can do the same while maintaining their eligibility.

Looks like the kid has income & cash flow, even before college.

At 17 he is the youngest player to sign a global footwear deal, he has over 5+ million followers in social media and 2 years left at the HS level, class of 2023.

He may be a terrific kid and an awesome BB player but in a way Im glad we avoided the circus that may come with a player like him. Even with his best efforts it might be hard to be a real "Team" when you have one player with so much publicity.

Even with his best efforts it might be hard to be a real "Team" when you have one player with so much publicity. I assume he'll go the pro route like many others have and not play a minute of NCAA MBB. If he does plan on "one & done": USC, Kansas, Memphis, Kentucky & UNC may be able to deal (or not deal) with the circus that follows him. He already has 4 to 5 deals, how does that distraction play out in the locker room, and on the floor. Especially at SDSU with student athletes, who have deals with local restaurants, and small businesses; and Mikey rolls in with a global-shoe deal with Puma, and is forced to wear Nike Jordan's like the rest of the team. Hell UNLV is giving out car allowances from Dealerships, Mikey would get a nice ride at UNLV.

Dutch doesn't want distractions, this kid is a businessman.

When all is said and done Mikey is from San Diego and you can tell he is a prideful individual. At the end of the day he will go the route that offers him the best growth potential. If he wants to come to San Diego State Dutcher would probably welcome the young man because the kid is probably going to be a first round pick. That in itself would benefit the program. Now the real benefit is when Mikey understands what it takes to get on the court with Brian Dutcher. If there is a coach that can keep the young man grounded and make Mikey a better player it would be Dutch. This could actually be a win win for both player and school since he will be drafted probably in the first round. The Kid will probably go the pro route like Ball did and I wish him the best. I go back to Jaden and know that San Diego State was the better choice for him although he went to Washington. It still worked out for him in the end although he almost dropped out of the first round. Good luck to the local kid.

I don't think he's worth the distraction or the challenge he'd create toward team chemistry. Basketball's a team sport and if I were Dutch, I'd pass on him even if he wanted to come here, which he won't.

Any kid with that much talent is going to bring a bit of baggage. Trust me, if he wanted to come to State he would be welcomed. We could of said the same thing about other really players that have come through the program and it always works out with STRONG Coaching and leadership from the top down.

I just think there is just too much going on in his head for him to become a consistent lights out shooter. that could change with maturity.

If Dutch et al. want him, I'm all for it. If they don't, I wish the kid good luck wherever he winds up (except for any games vs SDSU, of course).
