Sooooo ...?
Frosh of the Year.
McCoy? Or McDaniels?
A couple weeks ago, it was McCoy by a tad.
Now that UNLV has been blasted in four straight and SDSU is on the verge of running the late-season table will McDaniels be deemed a more spectacular player than McCoy?
Discuss.

If Jalen's play continues to be great through the mgc tourney, yes, he should win. I believe that his excellent play will continue and spark/lead the team.
If unlv continues to fade, Jalen will deserve the award.

With UNLV's recent collapse and our ascension, McDaniels deserves the award. Plus, he'll stick around while McCoy will probably declare for the draft. However, I'd be surprised if they don't give McCoy the award, anyway.

However, I'd be surprised if they don't give McCoy the award, anyway. I dunno. This award is voted on by both MGC coaches and a media beat writer from each MGC outpost, correct? Everytime I hear an opposing coach talk about McDaniels or everytime I read an article about SDSU from Ft. Collins, Logan, Boise or even Vegas, they have eye-popping good things to say about McDaniels. I just don't get that same sense of buzz when it comes to McCoy. But, again, I think it's close and is probably a coin flip as to who gets the award.

I think some will vote for McCoy because they think he's the better NBA prospect. And he may be but if he was really the stud, they'd hoped he would be coming out of high school that highly ranked, then he should have taken over games when they need him to do so. And he rarely if ever did. Would love to see Jalen get rewarded for busting his ass non-stop this entire season.

I would be surprised if McCoy didn't get the award. I do think McDaniels has made more improvement as from Game 1 to the end of the season. McCoy gets more opportunities while McDaneils creates his own opportunities through hustle and instincts. I do think McDaniels will have the more successful NBA career.

McDaniels is just a better player. Problems McCoy was the big name starting the season. For people who really pay attention and don't just go with the flow McDaniels would be the choice.

McDaniels is much more efficient.
Shooting Percentages
Player eFG%.....FT....TS% McD... 63.2%, 82.3%, 67.4% McC... 51.7%, 76.0%, 57.4%
McCoy rebound slightly better and blocks more shots but McDaniels has more assists, steals, and less turnovers and fouls. UNLV fans complain that McCoy is terrible defensively. McDaniels is a good defensive player.

Are these full season stats? If so I wonder if Jalen looks even better?

Points, rebounds, blocks, etc. I think that's what's going to tell the story and influence the voters.

I don't know if he's capable of gaining weight with his frame, but he'll need to add about 50 lbs to be considered a PF at the next level. Despite his weight his strength has been near the basket. IMO with more weight he'd be unstoppable.

Points scored are only meaningful when considered with possessions used. McCoy has scored 41 more points but used and extra 60 attempts to do it. Not good for his team.
