Ducks, even at 7-5, know this game is beneath them - LOL.
One of their seniors, who opted out of participating today "for the draft", was seen trying to juice up the team before the game.

Can you really fault him? If Penny said “Nah, I don’t want to risk getting hurt in a meaningless game before the draft”, I wouldn’t be mad at him at all.
A little bit selfish? Sure. A little bit sh*tty? Sure. But none of us have 7 figures and an entire career riding on our ACLs.
Wasn’t it McCaffrey who did the same thing in a semi-MEANINGFUL bowl game?

Bull crap! If Penny had done the same? He wouldn't of course because he made a commitment to his team to play not sit. Selfishness of that magnitude would never occur on a Rocky Long team. How does Freeman's teammates relate? I think Oregon looks flat and almost don't care.

Boise beat Oregon up. Two really bad offensive plays at the end of the second half made the game look close. Announcers where commenting that Oregon was playing like they "didn't want to be there", but give Boise credit, they completely outplayed Oregon.

Wow. When an athlete can decide to simply blow off his school's bowl game to protect his future earnings, and people on chat boards can say it's fine with them, then the notion of sportsmanship has sunk a long way.
Freeman abandoned his teammates yesterday and said to all of them that the bowl didn't matter. Judging from the way they played it looks like they heard his message. Everyone connected with the U of Oregon should be outraged.
If a bowl game is the culmination of a team's season, how can it be meaningless? It's what the players spent all season working for. Would we excuse a player for sitting out a late regular-season game because he deemed it meaningless? No doubt Freeman will be refunding a portion of his scholarship money.
Baffling that any coach would allow this. If an Aztec had tried it, Rocky wouldn't have let him on the plane.

The fans most upset are oregon's who bought tickets/flight and hotel room for the las vegas bowl. Then had a player quit on his teammates/fans.

I know for a fact that there have been some SDSU players from the past who have tanked it in the last game/s of the year, so they wouldn't run the risk of getting hurt and hurting their draft status. It cost us an end of the year game/s. Sucks, but it happens.
So, they played, but didn't do anything that would be risky. To me, it's the same thing as though you didn't play. The players on the field can tell when you're tanking it. It sends a very bad message to the team and hurts the moral.
