LTB got fooled by the Zeigler articles and buzz of us crushing a hapless USC team in an empty gym. We all did to an extent. I was sipping the Kool aide just hadn't gulped it and asked for seconds yet.
This team will figure things out and be decent/good, but it'll most likely be too little too late and we will just be waiting for the conference tournament again. I will gladly eat crow and take the roasting if proven wrong. Not counting on it though.

I'm always overly hopeful every November. My wake up call has been coming earlier these last few seasons, unfortunately.

I remember a few years ago we played an early home game against a Utah team with 3 future NBA players. We played pretty bad but we hung in there and won the game at the end. We had less talent, less size and less shooting but we won with smarts, rebounding and flat out toughness. We always had that calling card: defense, toughness, smarts.
That toughness has left the program, unfortunately. We will improve and we we will have some nice wins, but those days of winning games when we shouldn't might be done for a while.

Be careful what you wish for. As far as I'm concerned, it was sheer LUCK the administration broke their long standing tradition of hiring men's basketball coaches that experienced at best, modest success, at worst dismal failure.
The fact that an old guy, languishing on a bench in Sacramento, all but written off, counting the days, was plucked by SDSU and was the most successful MBB coach this university had ever had was nothing short of a miracle.
If it turns out this guy is like that guy that coached at UNLV, good recruiter, lousy coach, (what was his name again?) and SDSU resorts to traditional MBB form, I would suggest tearing down Cox Arena and build a football stadium so the Aztecs football program will have a place to play.
The San Diego Sports Arena still has more seats, but again, if this guy turns out to be yet another bust, it won't matter. But as always, we shall see.

Fair enough. I'm always overly hopeful every November. My wake up call has been coming earlier these last few seasons, unfortunately. No need to give that jack wagon any credit. He's not a fan and never has any optimism. Always looking for the negative, he's in heaven today. He's also one of the most ill-informed here, constantly whining about offense and failing to adequately appreciate that defense was the Aztecs' equalizer and their best way to compete with and beat Kansas and Arizona. He'll never learn.

He'll never learn. Oh legkick, will you ever learn? That's the real question. Will you learn that it's ok for people to have opinions others than yours? Will you learn that you can be a fan and be pessimistic? My stance on "fandom" comes from years as an all-around SD sports fan. I wouldn't expect anyone to understand unless they were a glutton for punishment like me. "Ill-informed?" All I said was a little more focus on offense would be nice, not a complete abandonment of defense. I know we beat Kansas and I'm not saying that defense didn't play a huge role in that game, but we also had X Thames and guys who were relentless on the boards like Josh Davis and Sky. Arizona? How many times have we beaten them recently? How many times have they beaten us? That vaunted defense you mention also played a part in quite a few losses, too, because we never got the offense going outside of one or two players. You see, too much of a focus on one thing isn't always good. I get it, we're all a little bummed out from the loss, but maybe try looking at the team, the players, the coaching staff, and the program before directing your anger and hurt toward an anonymous message board member.

I'm still confused by what caused the massive slide from up by nine early in the second half. What the hell broke down?

I'm still confused by what caused the massive slide from up by nine early in the second half. What the hell broke down? They turned up the intensity and we couldn't handle it on either end. They out-ran, out-muscled, and out-hustled us badly in the second half and we just looked surprised and unprepared on how to deal with it. I hated that Dutcher tried to wait for the media timeout instead of calling a timeout when they started their run. It may not have mattered but the game was decided in that run - at least try and regroup.

Agree. Burn timeouts there to stop the run. I know Fisher like to let our teams figure it out, but we don't have veteran team that has played together enough.

Then that tells me that we had the talent, but not the needed maturity in the players, OR the HC, to respond properly.

Wow, the season has ended after the second game. Is this a new record for the panic stricken crowd?
