Sorry Stan, Sieko is a real D-1 talent and plays against high level competition at a very high profile HS and AAU Team. Fisher is a walk-on. But, if he can shoot and play defense I am supportive. Sounds kind of like Kevin Zabo... You mean the Kevin Zabo that went for 12, 2 and 5 off the bench against 3 seed UCLA in the NCAA tournament this year?

It's not like he was recruited to come here, nor will he likely get playing time. "Preferred" walk on status isn't really anything more than a ceremonial title and would likely be bestowed upon 90% of kids who transfer to State, have D1 basketball experience, and want to be a part of the program while understanding they likely are not at our talent level. Sometimes everyone is surprised/there is work ethic and late talent development that brings opportunity for those that deserve it.

I think any team would be thrilled to get that kind of spark from coming off the bench. Alas, the coaching staff felt his "spark" was not needed at SDSU.

And that's cool - the point of my post (it's even bolded), was that he was a high-rated guard playing against good competition. I left defense behind; I guess we'll see if Seiko's the real deal when he gets here.

I must have missed that way back when can you show me an article or something? Our staff doesn't usually do that.

Had Zabo remained an Aztec, I'm sure you'd post plenty of negative things about him.

Shoots and plays D.
That screams Chase Tapley or Brandon Heath. We would be so damn luck to get another Tapley or Heath.

Yes & no, although the difference in football is greater than in hoops. "Preferred's" typically are recruited vs. a more generic "walk on" is not. Preferred's, especially in football, are more often than not guaranteed a spot on the 105 man roster upfront and can participate in strength & conditioning activities prior to the start of school, rather than having to earn time only after school starts. Plus, some are told they won't get a scholarship now but they could be given one at the start of the school year if openings remain, or at mid-season (again, more football). We don't know what side deal he has, but definitely being labeled a "preferred" has its benefits & many WO's are not given that status.
