www.calpreps.comYou can see predictions about this week's games by scrolling down to the San Diego section and clicking on the divisions to see how the computers see these outcomes. Hope you can get by Oly. and the next round. Would be nice to see you in the Stadium in a replay of a couple years ago. (Provided we get by as well.) Went down early 26-7. Clawed our way back to 26-21 after first drive of 3rd quarter. Stayed that way until 6 minutes left in the game when we gave them 2 short fields on a fumble and stopped on downs and they punched both in. Proud of the way the kids battled back; wish we could have finished the rally. 9-3 overall on the year.

Congratulations on a great 9-3 year!

Vista crushed Poway last night, 37-7.
They were up 24-7 at half, and came out and ran 8 1/2 minutes off the clock on the opening drive of the 2nd half (a TD drive). It was a textbook drive, and even included a conversion on 4th and 1 and a 25 yard pass completion to Stefan McClure on 1st and 20.
Poway scored 42 points last week, but were held to 7 last night. They ran a high-tempo offense that ran up to the line of scrimmage after breaking the huddle and had a very quick snap count to keep the defense unprepared. It worked for a while, but Vista adjusted and got used to it and made the defensive plays when they had to.
Now it's on to Torrey Pines. Why Torrey Pines got a higher seed than Vista I'll never know, but we'll be there. Torrey's facilities (press box and stands) are woefully indadequate, but we'll just have to deal with it (and probably call the game on a cell phone from the visitor's stands like we did a few years back).

Torrey Pines played a tough non-league. Including a win (shutout) over a solid Olympian HS squad. Their only loss thus far is to LCC. Vista had a weak non-league. Great Oak, UC, and El Camino......all three pretty bad this year. Both programs are solid. I see Torrey Pines getting the win.

I think Torrey wins as well. Should be a good game though.

Play the game in Vista and I'd give the Panthers a 90% chance of winning it. At Torrey Pines I'll give Vista a 50% chance...

Erik,
Why do you think the Panthers will fare poorly on the road?

I don't think they'll fare poorly, but at home they are almost unbeatable this year. They get HUGE crowds (5,000+) so playing at home is a big advantage.
Torrey Pines is a tough place to play. Vista went in there about 6 years ago and lost in the Semi-Finals. They were without their starting QB and another key player got hurt early on, but even with those guys it would have been a dogfight.
That's why I say if it were at Vista I'd give them a 90% chance to win, but only 50% at Torrey Pines.
Vista's got a ton of offensive firepower, and a solid defense, but they do make mistakes (turnovers, penalties), and playing in a hostile environment can lead to key mistakes.

I will be interested in seeing who is in the finals. It should be a very fun day. My guess is Eastlake and Vista.

The Valley Center game turned out exactly as the NCT predicted. What are the chances of that? My favorite running back had another fine night with about 280 yards rushing. McClure from Vista also had a great night in a win. Today's NCT has Travis Bernard as North County Offensive Player or the Year and Stephen McClure as North County Defensive Player of the Year. Interesting to follow them as their teams attempt to advance in the playoffs Thursday.

Honestly, I'd say McClure is actually a better receiver than he is a DB - and I think he may very well be the best DB in the county, so that should give you some idea about how good he is as a receiver.

VISTA WINS!! 20-17 at Torrey Pines!
It was a great game that went down to the wire. Both teams played really well and it was evenly matched - it went back and forth as momentum shifted at least 10 times. In the end Vista's defense came up big and held off the Falcons.
Now it's on to the Q where Vista takes on Mira Mesa in a rematch that pits a much improved Mira Mesa team that will be looking for payback.
And I'll be there...

After an inspired first few minutes by Santa Fe Christian, Valley Center righted the ship and took Santa Fe Christian apart with the run and stout defense. Now for another showdown in the Q with Madison. A flu weakened RB ran for another 248 yards to lead Valley Center.
Will Valley Center move up to NO. 1 in county rankings after this weekends playoff games?

Why are the championship games taking place on Monday instead of Friday?

Why are the championship games taking place on Monday instead of Friday? The Championship game is always played at the mercy of the Chargers, Poinsettia Bowl, and Holiday Bowl. They have to pick a date where the Q will not be used again for a certain length of time. The field gets pretty chewed up after 4 HS Football games, so they need time to fix it for the next game.
