ESPN's Chad Ford, who was in love with Malik's game after his Freshman year, still has hope for him. He said that " ...although Pope has really struggled to find any consistency the past two seasons, he has all the physical tools and skills NBA teams want. However, he can't seem to put it all together most nights. He likely would have gone undrafted had he stayed in the draft. He's a potential 2nd-Round pick in the 2018 draft."
Dare we hold our collective breaths again? Can the Basketball Gods give us an X Thames kind of Senior year for him to help make up for all the Basketball disappointment from the last two years? Call me crazy but I'm already hoping.

Geez he's the only reason I watch them. Praying he can overcome the knee problems.

Sorry to break it to all, but when players are injury prone they never seem to recover. Ask Ryan Matthews or Malcolm Floyd.. Im just hoping to get 20 -24 games from him. That would be a great year for him.
This Watson guy people talk about him like he was the next Jimmer Ferdette. He will cure all of our offensive problem and rebounding. If he puts 10ppg ill be happy. If we dont get two big guys pretty soon we will be in trouble. Pope will be our defacto Center on this team. Coach Dutcher is coming up to 60 days on the job and still hasnt signed anyone. All the guys that were hired at the same time have at least one recruit signed.

He better be healthy and productive, because Dutcher so far isn't showing much on the recruiting side of things.
Next year would seem to be shaping up to be bad, but perhaps they will surprise.

I thought Dutcher recruited the FAB 5??? The real issue is our assistant coaches don't have any AAU or NBA ties. Kids now day look up people on the internet and as much as I love Velasquez and Shelton, both have never coached any level.

How about having Pope run the point of attack?

How about having Pope run the point of attack? No, I want Watson running the point. However, I'd love to see Watson and Pope play the pick & roll. If they can execute, could be a he'll of an offensive force.

Sorry to break it to you, but Bill Walton was the most injury prone player I can remember and he still made it into the HOF.....Same with Paul Molitor. There are lots of players who struggle with injuries, but still manage to have outstanding careers.

I don't envision a breakout senior season for Pope. Freed of PG responsibilities I expect the breakout senior to be Kell.

How about having Pope run the point of attack? None of these guys are Magic Johnson. Giannis is simply a freak of nature. Winston has decent handles; Pope does not.

Pope is still 3 years behind his grade and I am not sure he has that Kobe Bryant work ethic. Not saying he is a late bloomer, but he is playing catch up and has skills.

Don't know anything about Pope's "work ethic", but he sure hasn't been a shining star for the past three years. Yes, he's been hurt and that makes a difference.
A few "ah-ha" moments still give me hope that he'll put it all together this coming season …
