This has completely caught me by surprise! Not that I didn't think he would ever retire, but was sure after the past season he just endured with the Aztecs that he would work toward getting this team back to snuff and go out a winner possibly next season after winning the MWC! Before Steve Fisher was hired San Diego State did not have anything resembling a basketball program! And, we all have heard of the stories of him going around handing out free tickets to games, plus his positive comments about the great fan support at home games made during on-air radio & TV broadcasts. STEVE FISHER WAS AZTEC BASKETBALL and he put San Diego State on the college basketball map for all time!!!!!!!!!!!  An Era has ended, but at the same time a new Era will begin tomorrow when not only will we get to say Thank You and best luck to a fine coach who will be retiring, but we will get to say hello, and welcome to Brian Dutcher, our new coach!  Should be very interesting to watch, and see how everything goes at San Diego State GO AZTECS!!!!!!!!!!!!!  |

I had a long talk with him and it was best to retire.2 centers over 20 years was probably the worst recruiting job ever.First things first we need to turn that around and at least be able to stand our ground against blue bloods and the MWC.

This picture posted of him at the FF looked like someone who no longer had a care in the world. He knew it then.  Hope to see him at a few games somewhere down the road - but wouldn't be surprised if we don't see him next season. That is why I was saying he should have retired at half time we could have had a new assistant super recruiter here already.Dang man |

Stats do not lie don't be mad at me I did not cause him to fail. Enough trolling. NO ONE has been more successful as head coach of the Aztecs basketball program than Steve Fisher in the D1 era. No one. It isn't even close. He hardly failed. He did what no one else could have done at SDSU with a DOA basketball program. He worked miracles, and if not getting a center bugs you then that's just too damned bad. No other coach was taking this program to the Sweet 16, and you damned well know it. This is a public warning. Stop the trolling. |

Complete respect to Coach Fisher who put Aztec basketball into the national spotlight. His impact on our program will continue for many years. Best wishes Coach. You will be missed.

Right we had one stars and two stars very little interest that roster had to be graduated off to start creating interest those were the previous coaches recruits. |
