Just to set facts straight, the Japanese-American internment camps were set up through executive order which bypasses Congress. I'm not claiming it will happen again but the possibility is there and Trump will have the power to make it so if he wants. The possibilities are there for nuking Russia and he will have that power if he wants too. Also he could invade Iceland through a presidential action. All are possible. I'm not saying it will happen though. Deportation is a significantly more likely event. My point is you are promoting an environment of fear through your ideas of what is "possible". There is enough fear and distrust without needing to predict WWII like events. I'd reconsider your thoughts to what is likely or at least what you think might happen instead of a world that is "possible". Trump could possibly be the first President to go to Mars. I posted this link to promote tolerance not fear among an entire religion. It is not going in a direction I like. Sorry I agree with you to an extent but when you surround yourself with people who expouse racist and anti-Semitic retortic the likelihood of acting on such thoughts are much greater than if those people weren't around. To the best of my knowledge he doesn't surround himself with people who are anti-Iceland.

Definitely I agree with you on this.
We need more bridges and less walls.
One of the things he did was promote fear aka fear mongering. I try to avoid this.
We need unity and that includes with Democratics and Republicans.

That is crazy. What policy proposals has Trump made that will make things "much worse" for Muslims in this country? Detention camps? Really? You have been feed crazy thoughts by MSNBC's worst opinion hosts. Well since he's been so coy about his actual positions on many issues it's hard to tell what he really believes. But you can't deny that he's emboldened racists and anti-semites around the country to emerge from the shadows. More than likely these sorts of people will have positions of power in his administration. So you are just projecting. Again, Crazy. There are a lot of people who are over reacting.

Agree that people are overreacting and it is causing a panic. I recall a similar panic when BHO was elected 8 years ago. I am a conservative and some of the things my friends said were off the wall paranoid. I would just chuckle and cite the whole checks and balances thing. It will continue for all of Trump's presidency just like it did for Obama's.

Some or most of the harmful things that Obama did by executive order will be reversed. Some of the things that Trump will do that offend will be reversed sometime in the future unless he does it the right way.

Well agree to disagree. We all have our own opinions. I can say though that I've never been so thankful to be upper middle class straight white guy since "in my opinion" I won't be the one to suffer under his social policies, new social climate and Supreme Court. I can also say that I've got a reason to be a bigger Spurs fan, what Pop said was spot on.

You're right about middle class straight white guys. Unless, of course, you stumble into a "protest" in any big downtown city this weekend. A friend of mine put it best, saying the left has done more to make me like Trump in the past three days than he did in 16 months of campaigning. By the way, has the story that started this thread been confirmed yet? If true, I hope they throw the book at the thugs.

The middle class will should be the ones most helped by Trump's economic policies and there was nothing in his campaign that should have had you add "straight". That is just a cause de jure that is added to any leftiest complaint.

With for sure 1 appointment and most likely 2, that is a real possibility since it was a 5-4 decision. And to tell you the truth, his economic policies aren't my concern. Whether I have to pay a bit more tax or a bit less doesn't make much of a difference to my family personally.

I hope he appoints justices that stick to the constitution. Once the republicans can strike a balance at the federal level between the social conservatives and the "rest of us" they will find a huge base of moderates who are disenfranchised by the current state of our country. My observation is that a huge block of the country is fiscally conservative but socially liberal, they just don't realize it because of identity politics.

Tax policy is not designed to make you pay more or not. It is about growth. The growth we have had over the last 8 years was terrible. It is why Trump won since 3% growth would have relieved the dissatisfaction that influenced many decisions.

We could engage in arguments about marriage forever and it would not make any difference to most folks. The things that do matter are tax policy and how we find that sweet spot where economic activity and growth are maximized while individual and corporate taxes are decreased. That will allow smart spending on worthwhile projects possible while not causing deficits. We need to dig into debt.

Independent estimates of Trump's tax policy are that it will add trillions to the debt and billions to the deficit. Since Reublican were staunchly against adding to that during 8 years of Obama it will be interesting to see how they justify it now. Do you think we will see any significant debt ceiling fight by congressional Republicans the next 4 years?

Too many times it's a static assessment assuming the growth rate won't change when you reduce taxes, which has never been the case

What is their assumption? We heard the same thing about Reagan's tax cuts but we know that income to the government more than doubled.

Well as someone who conducts statistical studies for a living I would have to assume they tested a range of growth assumptions In their model and went with the most probable rate based on the factors they were measuring. Even if it is a conservative rate I find it hard to believe the actual rate could be so high as to wipe out $12 trillion in debt over 10 years, but maybe so. I do know for a fact that the majority of manufacturing jobs aren't coming back as Trump likes to promise they will. They mostly have been lost due to technology and more current jobs will continue to be lost for the same reason. So GDP growth most likely won't be coming from the manufacturing sector.

The other thing to consider is that the ratio between the total debt and GDP is a much more relevant figure than raw total debt.
