Okay, some of us are taking this thread a bit too seriously. If you can't take a little irreverent smack, you probably shouldn't be reading message boards in the first place. "Mob Mentality", seriously? The best course of action would be to log off the "interwebs", yell at the damned kids to get off your lawn, grab an Ensure, and go watch Matlock.
Lighten up, seriously.

What's disgusting is the tone of this discussion! I dislike BYU as much as any Aztec fan, but I could not be more disappointed with the glee expressed by some people in this thread about one of the dirtiest plays I have ever seen in any sport. Elizabeth Lambert should be banned from the sport - period! Rough play is one thing. To intentionally pull an opponent to the ground by her hair is beyond the pale. The BYU player could have been seriously injured for life by that action. Just because it was against BYU, that makes it okay??? If this had happened to an Aztec, you would all be screeming for Lambert's head. It's okay to dislike BYU in any sport, but the response by some of you on this thread is almost as egregious as the play itself. Get over it. Just having a little fun. Don't get your panties in a bunch.

Posted by B5Erik on Today at 6:45am Dirty play is dirty play. Yeah, playing rough against BYU is always a good thing, but she crossed the line and I'd rather see BYU lose fair and square than having them be able to complain about other teams, "Cheating." A little pushing and shoving and leg tackling is fine - but punching an opponent or snapping another player's head to the ground by her hair isn't cool. I agree with B5Erik and aztec75....let's not go overboard. Many on this board have developed a "mob mentality" as it relates to BYU. I agree with Johnny, B5 and Aztec75.

Thug play is bad, regardless of who you're playing.

I was passing through Albuquerque last summer and was talking to a waitress who was a local college girl who used to play soccer and she said that the rough style of play was just the way that they played soccer in New Mexico. She didn't see anything too bad about Lambert's play. That dudette plays the same type of game as that point guard from TCU. A very thuggish game!

Alright, some of you are making me feel like a real bad guy, so I'm trying to look at this issue from a new, PC perspective. Here goes, I'm feeling the anger well up. This is a total outrage! I am going to write to the President of UNM and demand an explanation. What are they teaching young ladies these days? Hair pulling, body-slamming, and bitch-slapping are uncivilized. Such savagery shouldn't be allowed on the soccer field, classroom, or anywhere outside of cage-fighting. I'm appalled at the barbaric behavior. What ever happened to the days of My Fair Lady? What ever happened to common decency? Is no one paying attention to the finer-points of sportsmanship taught regularly on The Mountain's wonderful commercials? Shake a hand, lift a Zoob off the ground if he trips over a root beer in the parking lot, thank the Replay Booth for its hard work, no matter how cross you might be feeling.
Is that a more appropriate response? I need to stop now before I make myself puke. Just couldn't make it work for me.

Cheating (whether it's SDSU/BYU football or UNM/BYU soccer) is not to be admired or condoned. I would hope that we hold ourselves to the same standards we expect of others; re: Replaygate.

Look at the video again. The BYU gal was trying to pull Lamberts shorts down. Lambert should have snatched that BYU gal bald headed along with two of her BYU team mates. I did look again. She grabbed hold of her shorts, but didn't pull in any direction. Regardless, the response is still excessive and completely unwarranted. Will everyone enamored with Elizabeth Lambert's play against BYU be so supportive of her style whenever the Aztecs and Lobos play? A thug is a thug, and she has no place anywhere near a soccer field! The whole thing started when Lambert was elbowed and it went on. There is nothing you can do to a BYU Borgette cultie that should be considered dirty or thuggish. To an Aztecette? That is a different story entirely.

Why do I get the feeling that some of us do not get things in the same spirit that is intended?

My sources tell me Elizabeth is a hard-nosed player and that the Lamberts are a solid family. The gal from BYU likely had it coming. Above all, this video made soccer interesting for a week or so. For that, we owe Elizabeth thanks.

I can already see an Elizabeth Lambert big head making an appearance in The Show when BYU comes to Viejas Arena this season Hmmmm, these big heads could do double duty, .... debuting at the New Mexico home game on February 16th and then doing an encore performance at the BYU game ten days later. Or, if any of the members of the show want, they can debut them at the women's games against those teams in January.
