Leaf is scheduled to play in an All star game 8/22 on the east coast . Why horsefeathers! I say if he scrams by tonight, he can hitch a ride on a struggle buggy with some bell bottom, and catch the old steamer to reach New York in time for that big sockdollager on the 22nd! ![](http://38.media.tumblr.com/a42a0cb1904935c7380abf5b06636498/tumblr_ncuve9QOns1qbuqcio1_500.gif)

Wasn't Jaylen Hands supposed to transfer and play HS hoops with Leaf this year? Why did Hands change his mind? Was it because Leaf told him he might want to reclassify to 2015? Could it be that the Aztecs have an open scholarship and are one of the only decent teams that Leaf could reclassify to in 2015? It all seems too good to be true, but it is possible. It seems peculiar that Leaf would decommit from a pretty good program doesn't it? Wouldn't it be something if Leaf did reclassify to 2015, and came to SDSU? Imagine the incoming class of: Helmsley, Narrian, Leaf and red shirt Freshman Cheatham! Those four guys would rival the incoming group from 2014. Why not keep dreaming here: Add Cage and Vance Jackson for 2016. Damn I just woke up lol.

Hands did try to transfer to Foothills but local CIF denied the transfer . He is appealing the decision to the State level .
Most important to reclassify is to do all the extra school work classes to be cleared for graduation. Has he even done that ? Thought he was playing AAU circuit then in Israel . Some have said he is old enough but that could mean he waited a year to start school or was held back a year , as some athletes do . If he did reclassify for 2015 , would guess he would want to go to a school where he is the starter at PF or SF from day 1 , not be 1 in the mix . UCLA does not start for a while >

Hands and Leaf already play on the same AAU team though so they have plenty of contact with each other and are probably relatively close. If Leaf comes here that ought to help us get Hands I'd imagine. Especially by the way Hands and his parents described what Hands needed to work on

I spent 3 minutes on the Interwebs looking for some insight into what he may do.
Then I realized that if I just wait a few weeks we'll all find out.

UCLA does not start for a while > If Leaf is going to reclassify he'd already have completed the classwork, and would know he's eligible to graduate. I'm sure he'd have checked into that weeks if not months ago, probably around or before any of the rumors about him playing pro ball in Greece surfaced. It'd be more about deciding if that's what he wants to do rather than if eligible. Foothills doesn't start for nearly 3 weeks, so it's not like he can do any additional classwork between now & then.
If he's even contemplating going through the process at this point it'd be more about seeing if he can get thru NCAA clearinghouse, which I'd assume is another process he's already deep into if considering this route. A worry would have to be the fact Foothills starts late, so are there administrators around yet to work with him/NCAA on the process?
Nobody hands a kid a "guaranteed starter" tag, especially any of the schools he's still considering. He's not going to start over Wiltjer at Gonzaga; he'd have Parker/Welch/Bolden to overcome at UCLA, and he'd have to fend off one of Zylan/Kell/Hemsley at SDSU. But he'd definitely be in the rotation at all 3, and I'd guess that's what he's more concerned about. He'd be in the rotation at virtually any school he'd go to (except possibly UA which isn't in the mix anymore), assuming they have an open scholarship.
As Hoobs said, if it's going to happen - at least at SDSU - we'll know soon enough (with next 7-8 days most likely - think he could afford to miss a few days of school). If UCLA, he has a few more weeks - basically until school starts at Foothills. Or, more likely, he's just taking visits and will complete all of them over the next few weeks/months, and commit in Sept/Oct/Nov.
Either way, it sounds like we're getting serious consideration, which is a step up from what everyone thought a year a so ago or even months ago. Nothing bad about that.
PS. It would be interesting (if not odd) if he got a tour of the JAM before the current players even did.

I keep forgetting about the fact that we have a brand new practice facility now. If we could already recruit fairly well, this should really elevate our recruiting to pretty close to elite level. Leaf might be the first of many top level recruits that decide to come to the best city in the country with a great basketball program. Looking through my rose colored glasses, there isn't really much of a reason to not come here anymore

But there is 0 indication he is considering reclassifying and that would be huge national recruiting news.
