One of the newer positives about Aztec football is how attractive it has become to quality JC transfers. Here are three who should really help on defense this year. Watch for them.
#59 -- Kyle Kelly 6-3/260 now #2 behind Jon Sanchez at DL. Had big number at Saddleback last year after leaving Arizona. Had numerous P5 offers out of HS in Irvine where he was a Parade Mag. All American. Has two years to play
#43 -- Austin Wyatt-Thayer 6-5/230 now #2 behind Jake Fely. Was all everything at Sierra College in NorCal. Caught my eye at the scrimmage as fast and excellent tackler. Three stars according Rivals out if HS. Picked us over five other MWC schools.
#40 -- Randy Ricks 6-3/230 now listed as the starter at MLB. Came in as a DL but apparently has impressed the coaches with his speed. Has pushed Ryan Dunn and Jay Henderson down below him on the depth chart as of now and Henderson played in nine games last year. Wanted to come here out of HS but needed to get his grades in order and did so at Arizona Western. From Las Vegas and looks like he may have slipped under the radar. Had 43 tackles and 8.5 sacks last year on an 11-1 team.
Perhaps we'll see them on special teams as well.

Good point and good to see. I really liked the looks of Wyatt-Thayer in the scrimmage.

Good to hear the optimism on these players. i wasn't able to make the scrimmage and by the looks of it, linebacker of all spots seem to be really young but really good.
if there is one thing we know, is that Rocky & Co. know how to spot defensive talent. Now if QB can only be resolved soon.

What happens after is another sad commentary on the state of this board.

Randy is flat fast. Bet he is happy to get the hell out of Yuma!
These 3 seem to be great additions. Thanks to the staff for their tireless work!

Excited for Kelly's potential, Ricks seems interesting though I am surprised he is starting.

Excited for Kelly's potential, Ricks seems interesting though I am surprised he is starting. Based on Rocky's comments he was upset with Jay's scrimmage performance...used the phrase Stage Fright. I think he's lighting a fire while also recognizing Rick's potential.

What started off as a great thread just became snarky crap. WTF? Exactly. I am growing to not like coming to this board anymore. No matter what happens in football, there is a host of negative posters that find it their job to start tearing down: Rocky, Sterk, fan base, other (positive focused)posters, our schedule, the MWC, the stadium, our geography (proving we can't get into the B-12), QBs, etc. It just gets old. People...Enjoy the ride! It's actually a good one. Not great, but WAAAAYYYY better than before. We ALL hope to improve to the next level and no one is settling or choosing mediocrity and saying, "we've arrived". But being positive actually can help get us their faster, rather than dumping on everything football related. Request: please don't dump negativity on EVERY football thread. Yes, have your say, state your opinion, but in threads that are clearly positive focused, leave them be. There are PLENTY of negative focused threads for you to vent on. Now watch...the negatives will ignore the core of my post and jump to the very edge and try to portray me as saying, "Don't ever post anything negative ever." Go Aztecs!
