Evaluations are mostly done for 2016 recruits , will be interesting to see ,who we can line up for visits and then who we can sign during early NLI Nov 11-18 . Any guesses? Narain thought he would have his decision on what he will be doing for 2015 season.
Rivals and others should have new ratings for the start of August .

From what I've seen from Michael Cage's twitter feed, there is LOTS of SDSU activity surrounding MJ. From practicing in town, to meetings with Smoky Gaines, I think he's on board with us. He's had a very solid summer as well, definitely stepped into a larger role with Plfueger out of the picture at Mater Dei, very good to see. Outside of that, I don't have the slightest clue. Not confident in Vance Jackson coming, Hands is UCLA, Ayton is probably a Kansas/other blue blood lean but I like that we're pursuing him hard. I think we've got a real shot with Bailey, but that he'll take his mission first and would come in as an adult in the class of 2018.
With Narain and hopefully Cage anchoring our front court, I'd like to see a grad transfer come on board next season for some experience on the front line. We've got good relationships with some solid players, just have to get them on campus, catch a game or two, and sell them on the future of the team, university, and city. Shouldn't be too difficult.

I was in Vegas over he weekend to see my step son playing in Mariah Carey's last show. There were some really big and good looking players walking around town and at our Hotel. (Platinum) With all those guys to look at it seems impossible to evaluate who is the real deal. Fisher and his staff earn every dime we pay them. Seems like an impossible task to me.

SDSU hoops program has an awful lot of great things to "sell" in addition to being what sounds like the absolute best within-team (incl. staff) camaraderie I've ever heard about in an NCAA squad.
I am confident we'll be fine.

Watching ESPN 30 on 30 about the NCSU historic national championship team, I was always impressed by Thurl. He is a very thoughtful person, he was deeply affected by Valvano and touched by their relationship and his death. Don't know if his son goes to SDSU, Utah, BYU or any other school however if his son is like Thurl, I want him here. Character speaks volumes. Think Thurl wants a good coach, a man he can trust his son to and Fisher fits that parameter. Wish his son well, he has a good core to achieve greatness what profession he chooses.

We have 1 LOI, 4 open schollys + 1 if Pope leaves. Here's my list for 2016 which would be an unbelievable class and Top #10 - #20 if it came together for us.
1. Nolan Narain -PF/C 6'10 LOI 2. MJ Cage - PF/C 6'10 3. Brendan Bailey - SF 6'8 4. Jonah Matthews/or Brandon Cyrus - SG 6'1/6'4 5. Jalen McDaniels - SF/PF 6'8 6. Ben Kone - C 6'9

Markus Howard/or Jaylan Hands - PG 6'0/6'1 3. Greg Floyd/or Lil Pops - SG/SF 6'8/6'4

We can thank Coach Fisher for how San Diego County has improved in basketball overall. I've never seen a stretch of time where so many good kids from SD. When I grew up in the 80's and early 90's and the time up till the early 2000's... it was rare for a kid from SD county to even go to college for basketball let alone NBA. There were always scattered exceptions like the Walton boys, Chase, Jared Dudley but now a lot of kids are good enough for D1 college. Let's just hope some will stay to play for SDSU and make us proud like Shrigs and Chol.

Will be interesting to see who the coaches can line up to come for a visit and the very important part who will sign . Half the battle is the recruiting for the staff. Going to be a battle for every recruit as the competition has also improved their recruiting . Many PAC schools and Zags have really gotten stronger . CAL adds strong competition up in the Bay to SAC area. Would guess the staff does not go past 12 in scholarships, if we can sign that many quality guys. Seems the taller recruits this year are not as good as previous years. At least those rated in the top 12 . So who can make the best talent evaluation of those rated 13-100. We have also been told not every recruit is the right fit for the Aztecs , they need to want to play D. We are going to need Narain and others for 2016 .
some reading from the last weekend J. Allen C/PF has at least got us on his radar . Cage really upped his game in Vegas , could draw some long looks from some of the Blue Bloods . No one is a guarantee until we see their name on the dotted line 11/11 Having the JAM center opening should help and would guess , word will get out there loud and strong. 2016 reload will be very important.
Can HS recruits take up to 6 official visits and unlimited unofficial visits ( is the difference being an official is paid by the school ) ? Are there limits on how many visits a school can have ?
So now the real hard work and nail biting begins for the coaches . Nolan Narain has said he will make official decision in August about 2015 season.

I know a few kids attending SDSU that have already moved in and fees are due soon. If Nolan going to be on campus this semester, wouldnt he have to have committed?

Believe first day of classes is August 24th, so he has some time. If he was thinking of playing this year then cutting it that close & risking not getting clearance from the NCAA could be dangerous. But since he's planning on redshirting I believe that's less important, and definitely not critical getting into summer session like many of the guys are doing.
You'd think if the kid really wanted to RS at SDSU this year he'd have made a decision by now, but it's also possible he HAS made a decision & is just waiting to make sure he can qualify & get clearance before making any actual announcement.
If we haven't heard anything in 2 weeks I'd start to think the odds are slim.

do not know the rules , if Narain had declared he was going to reclassify for 2015 , could he have played in the AAU games in July ? If he says he will make a decision in August that means it could be as early as this Saturday , after he goes back and makes sure all his requirements are completed .
CAL has now jumped into the Bay and SAC area , so it will be a battle to land guys from there . T. Bland is landing guys from LA area/OC . Inland Empire and has good AAU connections . Arizona and UCLA are still seen as schools that do well and can recruit all over the West and Nationally . Ducks do a good job in NW and nationally , have Nike money. PAC is considered way above the MW . Zags have also really improved their recruiting for top HS talent . So the recruiting battle will only get tougher.
The local 2016 recruits are top 100 . 2017 local recruits are the best they have been in a very long time from #1 to top 50. To be in the running we are going to need a very strong run in this up coming MM , at least SW16, to compete with the Blue Bloods . Top 25 national recruits are looking for top level schools .

As of now, believe Jonah Mathews SG is the first recruit to set up visit 8/29/15 This would be a huge steal, as he was just offered and his two top choices prior to July are USC and the Zags.

Very pleased to get J. Mathews to come visit SDSU with classes in session and the JAM Center open , wonder if it is his first official visit for the fall 2015 semester.
8/24 is the first day of class for Fall . Not sure if students have until 8/19 to register ?
Looking forward to see who else visits and when ?

Frankly, I expected a few more offers coming out of the July Evaluation period. Here's a few numbers to Ponder: USC has 1 scholarship left and 30 offers out, CAL has 0 left and 20 offers out. Nevada has 16 guys listed on scholarship, 2 left for 2016 and 22 offers out. I don't get it, USC has 65 offers out for the next two seasons we have 16 or so.
Quantity not quality, or do they just fish, fish, fish and hope to get a bite?

Guess we got the answer today, finally a little good news for the Aztecs this summer.
