My take was totally wrong on the mayor at last Saturday's OTL. Obviously his answers were measured by the questions posed to him by concerned citizens, while he knew this was going on behind the scenes. For better or worse, a real politician. www.latimes.com/sports/sportsnow/la-sp-sn-san-diego-approves-spending-chargers-stadium-20150714-story.html "But Councilwoman Myrtle Cole, a yes vote, said she considered the $2.1 million an investment in keeping the Chargers and the community spirit that having an NFL team provides.
"I own two L.T. jerseys," Cole said, a reference to retired Chargers star LaDainian Tomlinson. "That's an investment and I want to wear those jerseys."
I wonder what her response would be if someone told her, "if the Chargers leave, don't worry, you still have the Aztecs".

Seriously folks, though I can appreciate the efforts to resume negotiations, and avoid a ridiculous move to Carson(?!?), this only reinforces my position, if the Chargers leave, it will totally jolt, if not traumatize the city. So don't anyone assume for one minute this local small time college football team is going to in any way, rally the city. Where is TCU when you need them?

people act like having the nfl in your city is the height of civic pride. it's not.
I'll be glad when a team finally goes to LA, because the other teams looking for new taxpayer funded stadiums will be f****d without the "well, i'll just take my ball and go to LA" threat.

As a long-time, diehard charger fan, I can tell you that you are delusional. The Chargers don't make the city of San Diego. As for your jab at SDSU, I can't say one way or another how good the team will be in the next couple of decades, but I do know that investing in our universities is a lot more fruitful than investing in a private business that provides low-level jobs. Studies show that a campus expansion into Mission Valley would provide a huge economic benefit for San Diego, but if you're really hellbent on crapping on the Aztecs, then at least hope SD can lure a big-time company into the city that actually provides good jobs.

LOL! Yeah, people will be diving off the PB pier at the news of the Chargers leaving...
