Great write-up. Can't find too much to disagree with throughout.
Finding 2 starting OL & getting the whole unit to gel is critical, but interesting to compare to same time last year & see that he expects the unit to improve. Even w/o Poole.
Like his take on every position unit - extremely optimistic.

Phil makes some rather reaching projections as to starters: DeSean Holmes at WR, Darryl Richardson at TE, Arthur Flores at C. Those are projections I don't share today. Kinda sloppy at the end: "....and this team is capable of its first double digit win season since 1971." Come on Phil! We were 6-5 in '71 and had three 10-1 seasons later.

JFTHOI, I dragged out my first Phil Steele's from 2001, which was the seventh year of publication. Back then, there was no Phil Steele's number for some players for whatever reason. Here are the PS #s for some Aztecs starters from back in the day:
Lon Sheriff #129 QB Adam Hall #53 QB Derrick Lewis #265JC WR Jeff Webb #165 WR Raul Gomez #213 C Jonathan Ingram #336 G Ryan Iata #249 DE Andrew Brigham #354JC DE Kirk Morrison #222 RB Freddie Keiaho #225 RB Matt McCoy #309 LB Ricky Sharpe #260 CB Marviel Underwood #213 CB Marcus Demps #230 SS Garret Pavelko #108JC FS
BTW, the 2000 team rang in the new millenium by going 3-8, including a horrific 2-5 against the line in the MWC, with one of the worst offenses in SDSU history: 15.5 ppg. Larry Ned was the starting RB. He averged 2.5 ypc. Lon Sheriff started at QB. Lon threw 6 TD passes. Almost the entire offense was Derrick Lewis and JR Tolver, who combined for almost exactly 1,600 yards receiving. The team began the year with four consecutive losses to P5 opponents but somehow pulled off a near miracle winning at Provo on Nate Tandberg's last play FG.
Anyway, given that virtually all the players Steele listed for BYU was given a PS#, I suspect many of ours like Tolver who weren't given one simply had so few other offers during that infancy of recruiting services that the mag didn't feel comfortable assigning one to them.

Damn, SDSU ranked 38. Not too shabby. I'd be pleased with this ranking at the end of the season. That's like...100 teams behind SDSU. Drink the Kool-Aid, it's good for you.

Definitely a pretty positive projection compared to others that have SDSU way lower in the rankings. The only thing that worries me in the projected lineup is that most of the backups at DE and DT are LB size. The secondary will be very experienced, as will be the linebackers. With a better QB throwing to them, I can't wait to see the type of stats put up by Judge, Cumberlander, Holder, and highly-touted freshman DeSean Holmes. Also, I noticed the blurb in the defensive line section about Osia Lewis being a finalist for the Oregon State HC position. I had totally forgot about that. If that was after a mediocre season, if SDSU reaches the promised land of 10+ wins and a MW Championship appearance/victory, I could only imagine how many of the coaching staff will be the targets of Power Conference schools seeking coaching replacements. Lewis and Tony White for sure

Regarding the SDSU Schedule:
Steele has it ranked #117 in difficulty.
In the series vs Cal, the visiting team is 0-6. (This season it's at Berkeley, next season, SDSU hosts)
In the series vs Fresno State, the home team is 7-2 since 1995 (this season, SDSU hosts)
Vs Wyoming, the home team has lost 4 straight in this series
SDSU is 1-2 in the last 3 games played at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas
